The Obama's are very wealthy. Michelle alone made over $300K, before quitting. The Presidency is probably a step down in salary for them. Now, it's still a heck of a lot of money... but it's theirs. It's certainly not the way I'd spend it -on ugly shoes.

The nearest Kohls here is 3 hours away, one way. Maybe I will see if they have a web site. Tanks!

Kohl's is one of my favorite stores and thankfully there is one about 10 minutes away. I shop there all the time because they always have great sales.

    Isn't that something?!!:p
My doctor told me the same thing.

She also told me to spend a little extra on a good pair because a quality pair of shoes makes all the difference in the future of our feet. Of course she wasn't talking about $500 shoes but just a good, quality, solid shoe with the support that some women's shoes tend to leave out.

They do! And the site has a clearance section. I've gotten dynamite deals off there.

    Yeah they do!
You can't beat their clearance racks,at least here you can't. I used to really clean up on baby clothes when Jeanne was a baby.

I suffer from heel pain so the slight heel on the Skechers have solved that painful issue. The dr. said most sneakers make your heel go down but it needs to be slightly elevated. Bought Skechers and wa-la, problem solved!

Hehe, that made me chuckle. If you live up north our feet would freeze. I do love flipflops but you only get about 4 months use out of them.;)

    I totally agree.
Its their money to spend, whether it be $30 or $600.
If they have the money, and want to spend that amount on a pair of sneakers, good luck to them.

I find it more worrying when people who cant afford to spend a few hundred on shoes do so via credit cards/personal loans.

She is still buying goods, which is helping some business in this global recession.

    * note: now *I* personally wouldn't spend $600 on sneakers, but I would happily spend that on other bits and pieces I love/want/need *

I think Dec + Jan were the only months I didnt wear flip flops ( or thongs, as we Aussies call them), every day.
There were a few days in January, that I had to wear socks inside as the floors were freezing!

My LO has never worn a pair of covered shoes before...she is always wearing, thongs, sandals or crocs.

I'm looking forward to returning to Oz, and seeing her face when she has to wear sneakers, boots and gumboots!.

The older 2 wear sneakers if riding their bikes, but also live in thongs!

I'm with you. I hate flip flops. It feels like they might fly off your feet with every step. My preference in those cheap canvas sneakers that I can just slip on.

For slip ons, I like my Crocs. Don't do Crocs on snow or wet surfaces, they are slippery!

My girls and I live in flip flops! We buy them at Academy for $3.99 a pair and we have all different colors. If I'm not barefoot or in flip flops then I'm in strappy heels. I despise having my feet confined. It just bugs me - except for my leather boots I wear in the winter. The only time I wear sneakers is when we camp or hike. My poor old sneakers have been burned by the campfire so many times.

I go to the girls or the boys sections to get my tennis shoes, I have small feet and narrow so they tend to fit better for me.

As for the Obama's...they have money to burn. While they tooted their own horn about how they like shopping at normal stores, it seems to me now turning around and buying an ugly pair of tennis shoes that cost a fortune to most people kind of bellies that little claim. But whatever, they have to deal with the backlash of their actions.
