You sound like my sister. She is a tiny little thing and has to get her shoes in the girls department otherwise the shoes do not fit comfortably.

I get my Skeckers in the ladies section. I don't have big feet so I don't have to shop in the mens section. Skeckers has some really neat colors in their new D' Lites. I bought the pink Skeckers. http://www.skechers.com/shoes-and-clothing/styles/all_shoes/product/d_lites_-_starry/slpr

I would never trade Michelle...she can have her $540 sneakers and the press following her around...
I'll take my $30 sneakers (that are cuter than hers anyhow) and my husband having a normal job...no one cares what I wear or where I wear it.
(I think the issue was she was at a charity deal)
Some poor sweat shop girl made enough money to feed her family (or almost) from those shoes...and the sales girl made $54...so come on!

On the flip flop issue...I love flip flops. But is there an age at which you shouldn't wear them? Stacy and Clinton seem to think so, but they also think it is ok to go to the grocery wearing what around here is an "evening" outfit.
(I remember being worried about not having a hat the first time I went to a polo match in AZ...and I wore a silk dress....and 90% of the women were in shorts. (and shouldn't have been)

My mom is nearing 60 and she is still the Flip Flop Queen of Arizona. LOL She will probably wear them to her death.

My grandmother wore flip flops into her 80's- until the family forced her to stop because she was falling frequently. This was before flip flops were stylish. I  flipflops. Dd10 and I now wear the same size (in some shoes) and share them in lots of colors. Can't beat $3 shoes!

I haven't really followed this thread because, frankly, I'm of the opinion that if they want to spend their money, even on something foolish, well, that's their perogative. However, I recently heard that she wore her $540 shoes to a shelter of some sort? Now, I have to say that I think THAT is in poor taste. If I'm wrong, then I go back to the "it's your perogative."

As for me - my last three pairs of shoes are my 18 yo SILs cast offs. I am such a cheapskate. I think maybe, maybe? I did purchase my last pair of sneakers for me...but I'm pretty sure they were Brit's first.

I guess that means when we go to our socialistic state, I'll get a step up in shoes and the Obamas will take a step down. ;)

It's a pair of sneakers. It's not likely she found some exclusive Parisian running shoe boutique to shop in. Walk into any very ordinary sporting goods store and you'll see sneakers that cost hundreds of dollars.

Personally, if I had the money I would spend a few hundred bucks on a good pair of cross trainers. The last pair I bought was a $90 pair I got on sale and the difference between them and the $19.99 pair I usually pick up at Walmart was amazing. They've also lasted much longer.

Okay, finally googled those sneaker, those are UGLY! Certainly nothing I would buy. I wonder if they make her run faster or make her think faster on her feet or some type of Inspector Gadget sneaker. They have to have something extra special for that price, certainly not the looks! :p

Agreed Dawn. The more expensive sneakers last way longer than the $20 pair and my husband can attest to that with the work shoes he buys, and yes they are sneakers. And like I said if I had the money like they do I would go out and buy at least one really fierce pair of Prada boots or strapy heels. I don't see why people are coming down on them for spending their own money how they want too. It is their money, they had it before he was pres and they will have it after. I'm not an Obama fan at all but there sure a lot of caddy remarks about them here all because of some shoes. Jealous anyone?

Wow! I've never been called caddy before. Thanks! I was trying to be funny with my comments. I don't care what they spend their money on. I personally think those sneakers are ugly. Probably what she spent on those sneakers is nothing to them, but to most of us on this board it would mean a months worth of groceries.
    So jealous, no!

WOW! those are so yuck! All shinny and yuck. If I was going to spend $500 and a shoe, it would not look like that! I better be able to where it everywhere I went. Also it better make me super cool, run fast, and all those super hero things.LOL

I cannot get to much into this one. We do spend alot on shoes here. Dh wook boots cost almost $300. My favorite sandals were almost $100, but have lasted me for years now. They are the most comfortable shoe I have ever put on. We do the same for the kids also.
Now we don't go all out on the clothes. I really could care less about what others think of me or they way I dress. So, the shoe thing is not about the looks. We are more concerned what we put on our feet to fit right, be comfortable and what not. I mean I am on my feet all the time, I better take care of them. Pamper them a little, and hopefully they will take care of me.LOL

Whoa Katie! I certainly was not calling you out. I am not pinpointing anyone at all. I am talking about the general tone of the whole conversation and that includes everyone involved. You aren't the only one in this conversation so why would you assume I meant you only? I just think it is funny that a bunch of women are sitting here complaining about how much money someone spent on shoes and bragging about how little they spend on theirs. I am only presenting a different opinion. I love shoes and if I had the money I would totally spend it on handbags and shoes. I don't have the money and to me that much money also represents a months worth of groceries. Sorry if someone gets offended. It isn't my intention to put anyone's panties in a wad. I am just simply stating what I see and that is all. Are we not all entitled to our own opinion?

Tiffany, I agree with you on that, if I had the money I would spend it. But, I think where the oher ladies are coming from are alot of people are losing there jobs and he keeps telling people to watch there money and they spend money like that. I dunno what I am trying to say, shut up Kris...

If I had the money to spend, then I would, but I also would buy something that LOOKED worth the money. I do think sometimes we get what we pay for, however, I do think that some companies only cater to the rich and they price their stuff so high because the celebrities will pay that much for them and the companies know they can get away with it. When in fact, they are probably only worth about $100, not $500. For me, $100 is even out of my range, but to a rich socialite/celebrity/politician there is no difference between $100 and $500...so the companies raise the price.

I don't wear sneakers a whole lot. When I do buy shoes though I do tend to look at clearence first. The most I have ever paid for a pair of shoes is $20, and even then I cringe at paying that much. My most favorite pair of shoes...a brown dress sandal with a flower on top...I got for $3 on clearence at Walmart. Love'em!

I had another thought. I wonder if people (rich people) ever wonder how much money even $100 means to some people. In this situation...Michelle Obama could have lived easily with a $100 pair of shoes that was probably the same quality...esp. if they are just for walking the dog??? Please. Anyways, she could have taken the extra money and given it to someone in need, or several people in need.

I've always imagined, if I had that kind of money to throw around, I'd love to just surprise people I don't even know and randomly just give them money. $100 to them might be nothing, but it sure means a lot to many people. How neat would that be to show up on someones doorstep with $100 in cash for someone!

Ah, but it's just a dream. lol

I haven't seen the shoes. But I will say, the more expensive shoes do last longer. I was raised on 10.99 shoes from WalMart. When I got pregnant the first time, my husband noticed I was limping. He took me down to an actual shoe store and told the salesman that I'd never had a pair of "real" shoes" That was 7 years ago, and I haven't gone back to the WalMart sneekers. BUT they have some cool sandles.

I didn't think you were just talking about me, I never said that or implied that! I can't speak for others so the only person I can speak on behalf of, is, me!

If you read my posts, I'm was not complaining about how much she paid for her shoes, I simply stated they were ugly and I personally would not buy them. I don't care what she buys!

I was not bragging about how little I spend on mine. Actually I could find cheaper shoes to wear but Skeckers work for me.

I did not get my panties in a wad, perhaps you did, but my my panties were never in a wad. I was actually having fun with your post and was never mad.

I feel that perhaps the shoes got a lot of attention due to the condition this country is in with regard to the economy and finances. There are a lot of people who are out of work, lost their homes, took pay cuts, lost their health insurance, etc. Perhaps some modesty and refraining from advertising such extravagant purchases when there are so many suffering is what I thought some were saying in general. I think it is funny such a big deal is made about what the First Family buys. Is it them flaunting it or people following them around taking pics? Who knows! Just making conversation.

My sis isn't doing well financially so I would never share with her anything that I purchased so I don't make her feel bad. Same situation here.

So no, my panties were never in a wad-I didn't call you out, I'm not jealous and I don't care what shoes, dogs, rings or anything the First Family buys.
