I went to the tut show in fort lauderdale a few weeks ago, it was very busy when we went at 4:00 pm. we bought our tickets 8 months in advance as well. quite typical for it to sell out. The whole thing was totally worth it and i say get the tapes for everyone, even the ones who can read wonderfully, you can still read it some of the info is different then the boards. also when the place is crowded we were able to walk along the back side of the display cases and see all the items and not need to read the text only offered on one side. but there was additional information in the tape not on the exibit anyway. totally worth the 7 bucks we paid. i recommend a week day morning, or a weekend morning, weekdays keep the traffic down so you can enjoy the event a bit more then feeling cattled thru. we also picked up our tickets from will call:) so that is an option for anyone needing it:)

Have fun. I would love to see PA. and visit the Amish country. And getting to meet all of y'all Yankees. (LOL)
I just don't have any desire to see a dead kings things that came from his tomb.

You could still join us in Pennsylvania, and just not bother seeing the exhibit.

Let's see... 4 for Heidi, 5 for my family, 9 for Crystal, another 4-5 for her SIL, and possibly 5 for Deena. That would give us 25. Wish I knew how much it would be for an "adult group". Who else is interested in being counted in?

That's how much THEY paid in Ft. Lauderdale. I don't know if that was a group rate or not. One gal posted that in Los Angeles, she only paid $5, going as a homeschool group. But from what understand, we can only get school rates for one adult per 10 students, and they don't yet know how much tickets will be running. We will be considered an "adult" group, which means even the children will be charged the "adult group rate". If that's $7 (or even $10!), I wouldn't mind. But the rate also includes admission into the museum itself. The base admission price to the museum is $11.00 for children (4-11) and 13.75 for adults. So the price for King Tut that they will eventually charge will be the cost of admission PLUS the cost of the King Tut exhibit.

There is a form we can fill out now for a group. IT IS NON-BINDING!!! Would y'all like me to go ahead and fill it out for those we know who are interested...Crystal, Heidi, me, and Crystal's SIL. That way, they will be sure to let me know when they decide on prices. If we decide it's not going to work, we can simply tell them we changed our minds.

I talked with Heidi, and I've decided to go ahead and fill out the form. It requests three different days. Heidi and I feel that the weekends would be too wild, and Heidi thinks Wednesdays have lots of bus trips. Plus I think Fridays would be especially busy. So I'm going to request either three Mondays...July 16, 23, and 20...or three Tuesdays...July 10, 17, and 24. That's also far enough away from the 4th.

Crystal, that would be a tentative total of 4 adults and 11 "students" for you and your sil? Does that include the baby? I'm guessing she shouldn't be included in the count as she won't be 2 yet.

I talked to my SIL and her Dh would not be coming, so that would be 3 adults and 11 students IF we count Avarie who will be under 2 yrs old at the time we go. So I probably wouldnt count her. That would make 10 students.

One more question. It doesn't matter now right now, but just for ME to have my ducks all in a row, so to speak. How long does it take y'all to drive from where you are to Philly? Do you plan on driving up the same day or staying the night?

We wont stay the night. If memory serves, it would take us approx 2 hrs to drive there.
I was just on the King Tut site and it has under the ticket info that you can reserve your tickets. Should we do that now???

No, don't make reserve tickets. I'm going to do that as a group, hoping it will still be cheaper. I will do it for 7 adults (you, me, Heidi and your cousin, plus three spouses). Also, 15 students (10 for you and your cousin, 2 for Heidi, 3 for me). Does your cousin have any real young ones, or will they all be over 4 by then? That will give us a total of 22. I will probably include 2 more adults and 3 more students, in case Deena decides to come East next year. I think it would be easier to tell them we want less than to tell them we want more, and Deena will know way in advance (like by this summer!) I heard from Lorna...the timing won't work for her :( .

IF ANYONE ELSE IS INTERESTED, PLEASE LET ME KNOW NOW!!! We don't want to exclude anyone who would like to go, but we do need to move on this. Remember that this is NOT a firm commitment. We realize that lots can change between now and then.

Not my cousin, sister in law. All three of her children will be over 10 yrs old by time of trip. Now that I am thinking about it, better not count Blaze. Not sure he will be with us that summer. So take away one student, but I have more interested people. I will get in touch with them and get back to you asap with a head count.

I'll wait until I hear from you then. How about if I go ahead and count Blaze? Again, I think it will be easier to take away than to add.

My husband can't get off for the length of time for us to travel during July. They go by years on the job. Many many people that work at Michelin have been there 20 + so peak months are out.

I was hoping for spring time or late summer. Sorry. Really really wanted to go and have full plans of attending with you all. Kids are really upset by it all but life goes on.

OK, folks! I have now put in a tentative "reservation" for 9 adullts and 18 youth, for July (2007) 17, 24, and 31. Included in this count are:

my family (2 adult, 3 youth)
Crystal and SIL (3 adult, 10 youth)
    Heidi (2 adult, 2 youth)
    Deena (2 adult, 3 youth)

Deena, I know you're very tenative, based on when you decide to come east. It's OK if you can't make it. I just felt better including you and then changing.

Anyone else (Kris...?) I don't think it will be too late to join if your plans open up. I don't expect to give them a "final" count until next year around this time (especially if Deena's unable to make it!)

I will let everyone know when they get back with me, but I honestly don't expect to hear anything until next fall or winter.

Yea Jackie we would love to go but don't know what is going to happen at that time. I think it would be neat. But, I hate to give you count if we wouldn't be there.
