Okay I just read the other thread. Never heard of the movie though.

I did think of another movie we could discuss. What about Wildernes Family? Does anyone here like that movie? Also what about RV?

I have to leave in a bit to take dh's suit to the cleaners and run by the bank so I thought I'd go by Blockbuster. I want to rent RV and Wilderness Family. I have seen Wilderness Family a gazillion times but never RV. What did you think about it?

RV - I have never seen that, but wanted to. I try to get everything from the library, just haven't seen it.

We saw RV and thought it was cute. Homeschoolers are stereo-typed in the movie, but end the end, they are shown as smart and honest. There is some language in it. No nudity, but some s*xual innuendo. Lots of slapstick humor.

    Just got back from Bockbuster.

Grace picked out a Care Bear movie and one that is a variety of Blue's Clues, Dora, Little Bill and some others. They have a summer special going on for $1.99 kids movies.

I got RV and Watcher in the Woods. We will watch RV tonight and then wait until Samantha gets home to watch the other one.

It also stero-typed RVers. I have never met any like the folks in this movie. It is still pretty funny though.

I watched RV and it was funny. I think it stereotyped rednecks more than homeschoolers or rvers! Everytime the honked their horn dh would just crak up! I'll be watching it again probably tonight with Samantha. She hasn't been home since Saturday with the exception of about an hour yesterday. We also have Watcher in the Woods to watch. I haven't seen that one since I was a teen.

Are those to rent or did you buy them?? We've never been there. We really like Blues Clues here!

wow, this is interesting seeing all these, I am finding I am not as strict as some of you all but I am considered way conservative and that I don't allow my kids to do anything!
We don't watch pg movies unless its for something dumb!
Occasionally they put one word in , like with night at the museum, just to get the rating, or show off someones fanny so they can make it older.. which is also rediculous.
I am with those of you who view it with or first for any movie. or Tv for that matter!
We are always asking what are you watching if we are in the kitchen, which in our house is in view of the tv.
I try to not have cuss words in movies and skip frame any suggestive speaking or anything like that.
I have to ask why you who said no barbie movies do not like them? So far the few we have via grama , are harmless and the people are dressed better than the kids in my town, or my church for that matter.
We are very much into Princess things here as I have one daughter and two sons.

Don't like what Barbie stands for. So it's not the movie per se. . .it's that it's Barbie. I also have political issues about spending my money on Barbie but that's another story. ;-)

I am curious about the Barbie thing also, Sneaky. Please share.

With my first dd I did not allow Barbie but my mother still got her all the dolls. UGH. Even though both my girls like Barbie, they don't play with the Barbie stuff very often. I do have the movies. I have my own objections but nothing all that serious. At least not serious enough for me to be anti-Barbie again. However, I am curious to see if I am wrong. We don't do Bratz dolls at all. I allow polly pockets. I have given into barbie...maybe I need to put my foot back down????

Wow I missed alot by not being on here for over a month. We are careful but we always watch them 1st. The kids have also been at friends house and call before watching a new movie or they will read the info and tell them no thank you. We do have TV guardian on our TV for movies and I guess I never knew there was a bad word in Night at the Museum because it took it right out. Good to know. So we do let them see some War movies. It is history and yes war is not pretty but my husband was in for over 18 years. Why they add so much adult content is besides me.
Thank you for all sharing and I would love to hear on Barbie also...

I haven't read this whole thread yet (it's 26 pages long), but I've noticed that there are a lot of people who are much more restrictive with what their kids watch than I am (most people I know think I'm too restrictive).
Some Disney is allowed but a lot isn't - dh won't allow Hunchback of Notre Dame, (I've never seen it so I have no opinion) & there are alot of other Disney movies we don't allow, but I can't think of them right now
the kids can't watch movies with s*x scenes, but I don't mind a few swear words (if every other word is a swear word, they don't watch it, but I don't think a few are that harmful)
war movies are allowed (especially if we're studying that war), unless it gets too gruesome & it bothers dd (ds is too young for war movies)
we LOVE Harry Potter- dh & I own the first six books & are waiting on the 7th (pre-ordered, just waiting for it to get here), dd owns & has read the first 6 books, we own the first 4 movies & will definitely buy the 5th as soon as it hits DVD
both kids love the Jurrasic Park movies
dd has just recently started to read horror books (really in to Poe, & will be reading Jekyll & Hyde later this year, & has been begging to read some of my Stephen King books), so I'll probably let her start with horror movies next year (if I can find some that aren't full of naked women) I love horror movies & will be watching them with her
Basically, if there's too much violence, too much swearing, it scares or bothers the kids, or has s*xual content, they don't watch it. Also, some movies I don't allow simply because I can't stand them.
Barbie is banned from our house (I am completely anti-Barbie & anti-Bratz)
dd got a few SpongeBob DVDs for Christmas last year & only one has even been opened
They don't watch movies that often, especially ds, and they don't watch much TV (& most of the TV they do watch is PBS). We watch the movies with them (unless they're at someone else's house) & if we aren't sure of the movie dh & I watch before them to decide.

Welcome home HippyChick! How ya been?
Can you tell me how to get tvgaurdian? We have the thing that will shut out certain shows and not let the kids get into them, but what is tv guardian and how does it remove the words?

LOL Sorry girls--I stopped checking the thread. . .I think I thought I'd duck after the Barbie comment. . .LOL

Barbie (along with Bratz) embodies everything that I would hate for my girls to become honestly. She also embodies much of what I hate for them to think about the way the world works. She is dressed skimpily, she's not portrayed as intelligent or thoughtful (think about Barbie in Toy Story), and she as a personality is very materialistic. You'd never hear Barbie talk about staying at home with her kids. . .but rather the whole 'have it all' mentality of working, family life, etc. I highly doubt that you'd hear Barbie talk about her husband being hte head of her home either or her role as a wife and mother.

I don't think that just because my girls play with them they will turn into materialistic ditzy people. . .I'd like to think that my dh and I have much more character than that. But gosh, I guess I feel like there are so many toys and dolls to choose from, why not choose something else? Why not choose dolls where the girls can imitate me and sling them or even nurse them? Why not choose dolls that are soft like Groovy Girls, so the imagery of uber-thin and the suggestiveness of it isn't there? Why not choose baby dolls that need to be adopted and use that as an opportunity to talk about how many needy children there are or what it means to be adopted?

So in any case, there you have it. My manifesto about Barbie. I certainly don't think badly about anyone else who has them. . .just don't feel like I want to spend my money there.
