Angela - I like 'Bible Way' for your name.

When we started out years ago, we named our school 'Sunny Day Homeschool' but usually when requesting stuff to be sent I put our last name and 'homeschool'. I've never thought of naming us a 'school' and having tee shirts, etc... That would be cool. Not sure my 14 yr old would wear one but... My 7 yr old would.

Everytime my son is asked where he goes to school he says, Home Elementary. lol. One kid at church even said that he wanted to move closer so they could go to the same school! lol.

I never even thought about it but I like the idea of naming our school.

I guess I would use the same name as the title of my blog maybe change it a little bit "Lessons for Life Academy"

A bit long but that's how I feel about every day, teaching and learning life lessons is what it's all about.

So if you name your homeschool, do you have to get it copyrighted or whatever? I know, it's a silly question. I have a business name, but it's not official because I don't want to pay for the business license since I'm not doing any REAL photography the past year. So I can't put the business name on my business cards. Is it the same thing for this?

I haven't copyrighted mine. If another HS family uses it, I don't care!

hey reading through all these, , Ava thats cool! I get highschoolers that ask if I Could home school them and or say they wish thier parents would home school them!

And I like Bible Way too..
We chose Angels as our Mascots btw because Angels in the outfeild was on when we were talking about it, and it keeps with the initial A,
We once had an A angel as our sign/logo thing.
And part of the angel part was cause my kids are little angels when it comes to school! ( well most of the time!)

    Acorns to Oaks

is the name of our homeschool. We don't have a mascot (although I'm thinking a squirrel might do  )

I guess our "unofficial" colors are red and blue. My boys are quite close in age and since the youngest was born and they were often using similar items I would buy one red one and one blue one to make things simple. That practice has continued to this day and now, one says he wants a red mustang car and the other one wants a blue mustang car. Boys!

We haven't.... What, if any real one, is the purpose of it?

Might be a fun project. Maybe we'll do it this summer sometime, or even in the fall for a "not-back-to-school" project.

The purpose is to give 'credibility' to it on paper. So for example, when I am sending official notices to the state like my letter of intent, I send it on letter head with our 'logo' and our school name: Adventures in Learning Academy. Here, if the state doesn't respond within 10 days of your letter of intent you're off the hook regarding paperwork.

LOL--when you send something on letter head it can cause them to pass over it more quickly thus possibly releasing me from sending in my endless reams of paperwork.

Otherwise there's no real purpose! ;-) If you're not regulated or barely regulated. . .I don't know why you'd do it.

On the form we filled out when we filed our letter of intent it said to fill in the name of our home school. I thought everyone had to do that until I saw this thread back when it first started. And there were lots of things you were not supposed to use like Elementary or High School in the name. It also had lots of guide lines about names. I thought it was odd but the girls just wanted Sloan Academy so it was no problem. Beth

Where did you find those "guidelines", Beth?

Sneaky, I'm the opposite of you! We do have a name ("Way of Wisdom Homeschool"), but I don't have a letterhead. To me, anything that would cause the Powere That Be to pause and "notice" would be something to avoid. If they get all this paperwork at the last minute and they know they're on a time limit, they tend to "rubber stamp" them without much attention to details. I don't want mine to stick out to where they will pull it out and pay close attention to it. (Understand, there's NOTHING on it that won't stand up to scrutiny!)

We went with Warren L Academy. Warren is Hubba's middle name and 'L' is the initial for our last. I knew I wanted something with academy in it. We were "L***** House of Boys," but that one just never grew on me.

Jackie, I looked to see if I still had that paper but so far I can't find it. When we mailed our letter of intent we got the form online. I can't find those guidelines anywhere. I know it suggested you be careful not to use a name your children would not like as they got older because it said you could not change the school name after you registered it. I remember it said not to use street names in case you moved. It had several things not to use.

We love to listen to " Adventures in Odyssey" from Focus on the Family. My kids go to bed listening to it , on long road trips and most any other time. So we named ours
    " Odyssey Academy"

I Like to have ours because it comes in handy for filling in forms to get stuff, if I have a name it sounds more like I am serious than if I just say, OH I home school.
I can say I home school but some times to avoid conflicts I just tell them my kids go to Agape Academy. Like when signing up for things for the kids and such, since nto everything recognises home school when you sign up as a real school, it helps to have a name to put to it on forms.
I also have told my kids if they EVER feel uncomfortable with sayign I home school to tell the person they got to Agape Academy Private Home school,

We decided to name ours. I wanted something personal so we named ours North Star Academy, and our little theme is a quote, "Let love be the lodestar of your life"

Hubby and I had our first date at the North Star drive in, which has since been torn down.

I especially liked that name for all that the North Star represents. I designed a little logo with sort of a compass design, and will make t-shirts this summer. It's a little cheesy, but it's fun.
