Just heard from my dh and he said they took another break. I asked him if he was able to get a nap and he said no, just a supper break. He is back again. Sleet is falling right now. Everything is icy. Ugh!!!! All schools and colleges/universities are closed for tomorrow. They are saying the people driving home from work had to stop because of the ice on their windshield. They had to stop and scrap their windows. Very dangerous out their tonight.
G'ma, we just heard that west of Columbus the state government is calling the plows in. I guess there's whiute-out condtions, and it isn't safe for them right now. We've not been out all day, nor do I have plans to go out tomorrow. I had sense to go to the store yesterday when I heard what might be coming. We only got 5-6" here, but then we got sleet on top of that. I just saw there might be RAIN here next week! Gosh, I HATE Central Ohio weather!!! I don't mind snow, but I hate winter rain! It's cold, and just plain MISERABLE!!!
My dh and I have talked about moving when he retires, he is so sick of snow. My dad is 79 and has alsheimers, he depends on me to take care of his personal matters among other things, so we are here and will be here for a while. I love my dad and want to spend as much time with him as I can. I know once my dh doesn't have to go out in this mess, he will probably like the snow. I know what you mean about the rain. It's cold and dreary and washes away all the pretty snow. Where is spring - right around the corner It looks like dh will get a break, maybe he can catch a few hours of sleep before it starts back up again. Dh thinks we got about a foot, I haven't seen any real totals yet. I am going to bed and I don't care how much more we get because the house is stocked and I don't have to go anywhere until co-op on Friday. I just pray that my dh will be safe.
Leslie, I didn't know you had a sister in Perrysburg! Wow, small world! I am only 15 minutes away. There is a fedex ground in Toledo and a fedex station in Walbrige...that is where my dh works.
Well, we have a level 3 emergency and my dh was called into work. He delivers in Finlay which is also under a level 3 and has more snow than us. Almost everything in closed! I am hoping this means he will be home early.
Just talked to my dh and he said no sleep last night. It had stopped snowing last night so they plowed and tried to catch up before the next blast of snow came. He said he came in and got 15 min. sleep and they woke him up again and said to go back out it is snowing hard again. He has gotten 15 min. sleep in 30 hours. He is exhausted. Thank all of you for your prayers, just continue praying. He will be home about 4:30 tonight if the snow stops soon.
Ava Rose, praying for your husband out on these roads and for your peace. Praying he will be home early. Our church just called and said there is no Wed. evening service or Awana.
I am wondering about AWANA myself. I am hoping they cancel it. My church NEVER cancels church. lol. Only once was church cancelled due to snow and everyone was shocked. They haven't called yet...so they are waiting until the last possible moment. Geesh. Then you get there...during a snowstorm or tornado warning or whatever and they compliment you on your devotion. Is that messed up or what? I mean is it so bad to not go to church when the weather is dangerous? Oh well. I am sure my church will be meeting tonight....level 3 and all. lol.
Ava, what does your husband do? I had heard last night that Hancock County (That's the Findlay she mentioned, for all you non-Ohio people!0 was under level 3, but I didn't hear them mention Wood or Lucas Counties. Our AWANAS cancels when the school cancels. As far as your church goes, Level 3 says you can be ticketed for being on the road, except in emergencies. I feel it is wrong for churches to be open under such conditions. They also have to keep in mind the safety of the children and the workers. We actually discussed it in Staff Meeting last week, concerning Sunday mornings. Our OFFICIAL policy is for Level 1, we will have church as usual. BUT people are encouraged to use THEIR OWN JUDGEMENT on whether they feel safe on the roads. Vans will be running to pick people up ONLY if we have the drivers willing to go. Children's Ministry/Nursery will be running if we have the people to do so. Level 2 will have church as usual, but no vans or children's ministry. Level 3 we are closed.
Still praying here for everyone out in this weather today. Ava, I agree with Jackie. Even if your church doesn't cancel, they probably should. I hope you don't feel like you HAVE to go in this weather. But will be praying for your safety if you do feel you need to be there. I heard on the news this morning that another storm system is on its way.....should be interesting! Be safe everyone!
I am in Lucas county. We were declared a level 3 at four in the morning. However, it seems the snow has stopped for now and progress is being made on the roads. My dh works in Hancock county! However, Fedex is not servicing them today. My dh gets to stay in the station and do some work there. They figured he was more useful doing some manager training stuff. As far as church, as long as we are on a level 3 we are not going. I am sure if it is still a level 3 by late afternoon I will be getting a call. At least I hope they have that kind of sense. lol
So he has to drive all the way from Lucas County to Hancock? OUCH!!! That's just plain STUPID!!! I understand wanting your workers to be diligent about showing up, but let's be realistic, too! Personally, I'd not be showing up to church in a Level 2, either. We have staff meeting tomorrow morning. It was postponed from Tuesday AM, but I may still call and tell the pastor that I won't be there. As I said, he's wonderful about that kind of thing!
The station is in Walbridge and from there he drive to Hancock County. So, he is not in Hancock County now. It is quite a distance at any rate though. The station is 55 minutes from Hancock county. He loves his route though. He is in charge of it and the other driver's on his route...they are a nice little team. They are also far enough away from the station that they operate "better" they say. lol. Who knows. However, they are always getting praised. I think he digs the "in charge" part of it. lol. He did still have to drive to Walbridge under a level 3. I was so hoping for him to have the day off.
Just got another update from dh. He is soooooo tired. He is still plowing the roads, almost done. He gets off at 4, will come home and go straight to bed. I just checked the radar and another strand of snow is coming off Lake Erie. We normally don't get much from this, but it is about 20 minutes north of where he is, chances are they will get hit with that one too. If he has to stay much past 4:00, I don't know what he will do. Then he has to drive about 20 minutes to get home It is sun shinning here. Please continue to pray for him. Thanks
