Is anyone not driving as much? What's the price in your area? We go out once during the week and again on the weekend if anything is needed. I try to combine all my trips into one. It stinks currently at $4.
It is just over $4 here. I am trying not to drive too much if I do not have too. Luckily dh does not have a long commute. I really try to do my errands at night without the kids now so I can get them all done in one outing. I heard last night that we could be seeing $5 very soon. I feel so bad for my freinds who just got minivans, it is killing them. I am so glad we never traded in my escort for a van, much better gas milage and dh will be riding his motorcycle to work after dd is done with pre-k(he drops her off right now) so that will help.
yep it will still go up. DH said at work yesterday they say 6 before said and done. I don't know about that. But, I do try to go town in one trip. Trying to make list and keep them going. I am trying hard, never used list before so this is something new for me and working alot better.
In our little town we have one gas station. It's been sitting at 3.95 for over a week now and just noticed it was 4.04 on the way to taking dd to school. It's anywhere between 3.89-at the cheapo places, to 4.10 at places like Exxon. I'm not driving nearly as much now that we're settled into the house and have everything we need. I basically drive dd to school and pick her up and that's about it. I make one trip into the next town to do shopping once a week or on the weekend. Dd and I found a church we really liked on Sunday and it's a half hour away. We'll be driving more this summer because dd will have activities at the YMCA and that's a good 20 minutes away. I'm not going to take that away though because she's going to need that time out of the house with the new baby and everything. We have NOTHING to do around here, no pool, no swingset, and there's really nothing in our town. They do have a camp, but at 365 for one week we just can't afford that.
I have seen it range around here from 3.85 to 4.19. I try to go to places that I will be able to get all my needs rather than just drive around. I guess in some ways it has changed how far I go or where I am willing to shop.
I wish we weren't driving as much, but actually this year is the most we've ever driven. With my ds racing motocross we travel state to state with a huge rig. My ds and dh just got back from NY Monday morning and we all head out again next week for Blountville, TN, then onto PA again then Michigan and we wrap it up at Loretta Lynn's in August. I honestly don't know how we keep going but we do.
We have all but parked our vehicles. Dh has always ridden his bike to work, ds are also riding bikes to work. Youngest ds bought a cheapo bike for $80.00 and after riding it for only 5 miles the bearings on the pedals started to go out. Will be returning that bike via mail and he is going to buy an American made bike. Me, I hoof it!
Gas is sitting right at 4$ a gallon here. We only have the one car so I literally do not drive anywhere! I have a bike with a trailer for my kids and I bike them to playdates and piano lessons. But I don't know how much longer this is feasible since it's starting to push 110 degrees here! Our one car is a minivan but luckily it gets 29 mpg so it's not too bad on the gas. Still we've been thinking about getting dh a motorcycle. Amy
We live 20 miles from town and we both have to work. Soo, yuck. Gas is $3.90-$4 here and diesel is 4.91. I just bought a jeep liberty diesel. I love the vehicle and the mileage is better than my taurus. We also need the ground clearance and the four wheel drive. I do hate to have to fill up though. $80 every week and a half. My husband has about a 40 mile run to work one way. We are keeping to home as much as possible. There is a bunch here at the house for the kids to do. We have horses and other animals on 10 arcres. We can ride them to the river and about the neighborhood. The girls and I also do as much walking as we can in town. We drive in then park in a central local and walk.
I drive a big massive gass guzzling SUV. We bought our Nissan Armada one year ago and it is my most favorite vehicle I have ever had. I love my car so much! I don't like the fact that it takes $80 to fill it up. I have been driving much less and consolidating errands that I need to get done to one day a week if possible. Then I drive to the dance studio 3 times per week. I really want to take the girls to the summer programs at the library but they may only get to attend once a week when we go out to run errands. My poor husband drives all around Houston everyday. Yesterday he filled his work van up for $100. He also just bought a little Ford Ranger that is great on gas but it isn't for work. I would drive it during the week with the kids and save on gas but he hasn't taught me how to drive a stick shift yet.
Everywhere here is over $4 now. The cheapest I've seen within the last week is $4.09, and I think it's gone up since then! We aren't going much of anywhere mostly. We've consolidated to going out once a week for errands and we do that when we have to go out for dd's piano lesson. Then we go out again for church. DH's drive to work is only about 6-8 miles, so that's helpful. We have a minivan, but it gets very good gas mileage! Also it's paid off, so for us, no car payments and very good gas mileage is better than car payment and better gas mileage! Peronally, I think it's crazy that they're doing this to us! This should not have to happen---politics stink!
The politicians and oil big wigs don't give a darn about us. They are all multi millionaires and they're just getting richer. All the while middle class people like us are getting screwed.
When gas first touched $3/gallon, we went car-free. It was not easy! Before, we had lived way out in the country and were driving at least 25-30 miles just to reach our post office. In order to make this change, we relocated to a more urban area where public transportation would be available. We sold our vehicle and used some of the money to invest in Really Nice bicycles for the whole family, as well as a little bike trailer. Most of the year, this is our main form of transportation. In the winter, we pretty much have to take the train or bus and occasionally call a cab, but it's been no great hardship. In fact, an unexpected benefit of living car-free has been a VAST reduction in stress for me. Instead of zooming around to five different things everyday, (work, school, lessons, doctor, grocery store or fast food, etc.) and feeling stressed to the max because it all ought to fit in the shedule, I now get to limit my schedule to a realistic pace and take my time in getting from place to place. It's very nice So yeah, we had to change just about every aspect of our lives in order to make this work, but it's definitely been a change for the better.
The gas station on the corner is $4.25 a gallon for regular and $5.17 for diesel. All the other gas stations on the main street are between $4.15 and $4.25 a gallon for regular.
The most recent price is 4.10 a gallon here. Hubby and I both work, however hubby has started taking the city bus to work as it's cheaper than the gas he'd use to get there. Also we don't just go out for one or two items anymore...we will wait until we have several errands to make and do them all at once. And with the rising gas costs we've stopped eating out.
Gas is $3.83-$3.89 here. We have swim lesson for the next two weeks, so I'm driving more than usual. We have invested in bikes for our family, but are still looking for a used trailer for dd4 to ride in. I couldn't bike to the grocery store, but we can ride to the pool and park. I've been trying to get dh to consider taking the bus at least part of the week, but he's not going for it yet. He is getting a mileage raise this month, but it doesn't cover to/from work.
Gas is between $3.83-$4.10 in Vegas. I can get up to a 15 cent discount per gallon if I shop at my local Smiths grocery store , so that tends to be my main store now. DH has a company vehicle so they pay the gas, oil changes, car washes, everything!! At first when they gave dh the vehicle instead of a pay raise , we were disappointed , but NOT NOW!! They did end up giving him a pay raise 6 monthes later but having a work vehicle is great!! He can use it as his personal vehicle( off hours and out of town/state) and I can drive it as well !! It comes in real handy right now or we would be paying a lot for gas! I drive an SUV and we get 18 mpg around town and 24 on the highway so thats not bad. It cost about $55 to fill up. I go out twice a week for activities and/or food. Usually Wednesday's and Saturdays because that is when my dd's have classes. Oh...right now we go out on Mondays because our movie theater that is down the street from us ( it takes me 3 mins to get there) has FREE classic movies playing at 9:30 am, so we go to that. There is nothing like watching Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid on the big screen!! One good thing about Vegas is that EVERYTHING is so close together!! I have a Sam's Club, Costco, Super Walmart, Super Target, Micheals craft store, Lowes, Home Depot, Big Lots, Library, Parks ,DD's doctors, our ortho/dentist, Movie theaters, roller skating and ice skating rinks, Casino's, 100's of resturants and 20 grocery stores within 12 miles of my house!!! So I do not have to drive all over town to get to different stores and that helps on gas.
I paid $3.79 per gallon at Sam's earlier in the week but it's jumped again since then. I put $68 in the van that day. That's the highest amount I've ever paid to fill it up. My hubby drives his Saturn about 40 miles round trip to/from work. It's about $35 to fill it up now....used to be less than $20 when we moved here.
The amount you pay for gas also depends on how much your state tacks on for gas tax. Here is a chart showing gas tax per state. Federal gas tax is 18 cents. http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgastaxes.asp The news last night was talking about taking off the federal gas tax for the summer. I am against that because that $$ is used for roads and it also trickles down to county levels which could hurt those who work at the lower levels such as counties, it could effect their job if funds aren't coming in. I also did the math to see how much money it would save us and it is very minimal, $7.20 (1 40 gallon fill up)! That is not enough in my mind for the state, county and municipal levels to cut back on jobs or road projects due to their budgets shrinking.
