I was reading in the paper that in Los Angeles gas is up to $4.60 a gallon. I noticed that our food is still going up as well.:|

Over the last two days our gas has actually gone down in price.
It was at $4.49, now it is $4.45.
Not much, but hey, it's better than going up .04!

The gas is the same this week but corn has reason a lot because of them using it. I just bought a 50lb bag for $7 sheshhhh. We think its going to go up even more so we bought some extra corn to hold us for the summer at least.

Its so wierd because I am surrounded by corn fields where I live it dosent look like a shortage to me.

Plus the corn crop in Iowa is pretty much gone. That sure can't be helping things any!

you know I forgot about the corn in Iowa!!! Remeber when you could get like 5 ears of sweet corn for $1. Now it is like 2 for a 1 on sale. I can't see how the politicians are saying that putting corn juice in our cars isn't affecting the price of corn. I know it effects the cost feedlots pay for their corn, therefor it effects the cost of beef and such. Oh well lots of people say corn isn't good for you. But it sure taste good on the grill, next to a big steak. MMMMM I think that is what we are going to get for dinner.

We have been buying our corn at four for a dollar. So that is a quarter a piece. It has been this way for years. I haven't noticed a big difference around here. But, I do not know if our corn is grown in the Salad Bowl or if it is shipped in.

Our corn is running about 4/$1 here, too, on sale. I'll buy mine from a friend whose father is a farmer, and sells it here in town through his daughter. I usually buy about 12 dozen from him, and freeze it.

My husband is an OTR truck driver...

Hi ladies, I just was catching up on some reading and I have to say that fuel prices have been a definite booger! My husband is an OTR (over-the-road) truck driver and he has seen a lot of people go under in the past couple of months because the little guy can't afford to make it. My husband does not work for a large company but a small owner/operator so it has put the crunch on everyone. In fact, I never really thought about it until my husband and I were talking a few weeks ago about it and he said he had just fueled up and it was over $1100. All I could say was WOW! He proceeded to tell me that what was really sad is that he would have to fuel up two more times before he got back home for the week. $3300 for fuel......in 1 week. GOOD GRIEF:!: The trucking industry has been eating some of the cost differences but like everyone else - it is getting so out of control that they aren't able to continue that without going under. So the fuel charges get put on the buyers which in turn raises the price for the consumer (us).

What is a real bummer is that my husband said he was pretty sure that because of the price of fuel, he didn't think we would be getting any paid vacation this year. His employer just can't afford to pay him a week's wage without the truck moving. We can't afford to go without a week's wages right now, so, I think we have decided to "get creative" and do things more local. We're going to try out a smaller lake close to home for our fishing adventures and take maybe a 3 day weekend here or there. I told him that as long as we're together doing whatever together, the kids will have fun and it will be a success.

A cousin sent me this article.
For those of you who have cut back on driving, you might save money through your car insurance company. Ins companies rate your vehicle and driving habits. If you put a lot of miles on your vehicle per year you will pay more so you pay for your fair share of the risk. If you drive less, you will pay less.

My ins co has a rating of under 6000 per year and then tiered from there on. We are rated for under 6000 per year because dh has always ridden his bike to work and we really don't dump on the miles.

Just an idea to find ways to save money in other areas. Read on.......................

Nicole sorry to hear about your husbands business I have a lot of truckers in my family too saying the same thing.

Thats a good idea on the local thing I am trying to convince my husband to take a few days off to go to a local favorite river here for a few days of camping. Doing local is good

My dear friend's husband is a trucker and gas is killing him as well. My friend wishes he would just park the truck for now because she makes enough to support the family. But he loves trucking so he will keep doing it even though they aren't seeing a profit.

Patty that sounds like my dad. Trucking is in his bones, not to mention a little bit of pride. He is hurting too. He is passing the cost on as much as he can, but has a few older contracts that do not include a fuel clause that need to be finished up.

Ours has stayed pretty steady for the last couple of weeks. I haven't been out today, so I don't know if it went up last night. It's been 3.89 almost everywhere- cheap places and chain stations. I did see it for 3.82 at a Walmart on the other side of town yesterday. I'm still staying in!

Dh had to go to a town an hour away yesterday to do a camp inspection, so the kids and I went with him to get out of the house. He had to make the trip anyway, and we got to fit in some letterboxing.

Gas has been over $4 here for at least a month. It hasn't really changed how much we drive, though. We've been a 1 vehicle family for over 4 years & for the past 2 yrs were having problems with that vehicle. My dh drives to work everyday, but other than that we don't drive a lot. We go to the library once a week, and I do most of our shopping in one trip. My dh stops at Walmart for whatever we need there because it's only about 2 blocks from his work. Everything else I pick up on Friday after he gets home. I've pretty much always tried to do the shopping in one trip. Both my kids have ADHD. So, if I take them with, I want to get it all done & get home, without having to go out again to do the rest. If I go by myself, I'm enjoying the time away from the house & all the chaos, so I'm more than happy to do all the shopping at once (it keeps me out a little longer). Other than that, we have to drive dd to therapy every other week, physciatrist about once a month, & my Dr once every three months. I try to set it up to pick up dd's prescription on a day we'll be there for an appointment, so we don't have to make an extra trip (the building with her therapist's & psychiatrist's offices is on the other side of town). As long as none of us get sick, we don't do much other driving. We've cut down field trips to every other weekend (at most) when my dh is off work. Anyone that we visit, we take turns going to each other's houses, so one of us isn't stuck bearing all the gas costs.
The car we just bought (traded in the old finally) takes ethanol as well as gas, so we plan to start using that. It's currently at about $3.85 here.

Ours went to $4.12 just yesterday! Ouch!! We live close to everything, but not close enough to walk. We could ride bikes, but it would be mostly on busy highways. Not brave enough for that.

We filled up with E-85 on Saturday. It had gone down & was only $3.49. The station we were at gas was at $4.05 which is lower than most other places around here.
