In Moncton (2 1/2 hours from here), gas reportedly jumped to $1.30/Litre (which equals about $4.91/gal). Hate to say it, but looking at the devastation in the Gulf region, it isn't going to get any better for a long time to come... Gas locally is still at $1.12 a litre (not much better but it could be a lot worse)

I know it's busting our budget!!! I already try to combine trips anywhere. Then Mom's in the hospital. Yeah, you can get a discount coupon ($3 all day), and after thirty days you get to park for free. But thirty days at $3 per day is $90. So multiply that by two, because I go almost daily, and so does Dad..... She'll be 30 days in just about two more days now. Sorry. Paying to visit someone in the hospital I think is totally dispicable!!! They live about 45 minutes away, and when she gets home, I'll probably be driving out there once or twice a week. If I can afford it!

Anyway, any raise DH will be getting is more than gone with the rising fuel prices.

They are telling us that our gas might be up to $3.50 a gallon by Friday. Depends on the refinery damage.

Down here in south Texas it went up a half dollar over night it's now 2.99 a gallon. There goes the price of everything else too. Milk and all. WOW really going to have to plan our trips when we go to town.

I'm so mad about the price of gas I can't even think straight. And that's all I have to say about that.

Kris - We are in East Texas and have DEFINITELY noticed the increase in goods and services too.
Sometimes it seems you are working JUST to pay for your gas. I am sorry for people who work for minimum wage and have to drive to far(practically anyone around here has to drive 25 miles to the nearest town for steady work) or people on a fixed income. The cost of living raises do not come as often as the higher prices for stuff!
I stopped going anywhere and started really planning trips about 4 months ago because of the higher prices and now I am cutting back on those trips too(we are carpooling to the grocery store!!!).

Great picture, Brenda!!! It'd be great to show it to the kids and ask them what they think it means!

settler our children sound the same. Today me and dd walked 5 blocks to the post office and store to get gas. And my oldest said mommy why are all these people driving and we have to walk. I just said they must be lucky I don't know.

My son had started being worried cuz our answer for everything lately has been "we don't have the extra money for that". When I saw people start posting about the rising costs (and pictures to boot!) I called him in and reassured him that our family is fine and that we have enough for the things we need, but everyone is having to make changes right now. That eased his mind a bit :).

My mom is lying in the CCU at the hospital, and tonight she was worrying about DH and I, and how we were going to "manage" with the gas prices and all!!! I told her that we would "manage" just fine! We have money for what we need. We may have to cut back on more things we DON'T need, but we can do that! Most important, we tithe and teach tithing to our children. As far as walking, I wish we lived close enough to places so we could walk!

We are about crazy here in SC.

GREENVILLE -- Some drivers in the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia are finding it hard to buy cheap gas -- or any gas at all. But one expert said patience is the best bet at this point, and there is some encouraging news from one of the main pipeline companies which plans to get one previously-closed pipeline in operation Thursday.

A Hot Spot gas station on Highway 253 in Berea was down to kerosene and diesel fuel Wednesday afternoon. Clerks said the prices on the signs reflect what they will charge for gasoline when the station's tanks were refilled.

When they were filled again, cars lined up into the road to get gas.

One driver in Buncombe County reported that drivers were being allowed to purchase only 10 gallons of gas at one station.

Most stations still have gas to sell. Drivers reported unleaded gas prices Wednesday anywhere between $2.69 and $3.29 a gallon, depending on location, though prices as high as $4.79 a gallon were reported in Laurens County.

Stations with the lower prices often found themselves filled with cars waiting to purchase gas, while more expensive stations had no lines at all Wednesday.

One clerk said his station sold 4,000 gallons of gas in 45 minutes. Normally, he said, the station will sell 3,000 gallons in a day.

The South Carolina Secretary of State's office was flooded with complaints that the suddenly-higher prices constituted price gouging, but state officials said that in legal terms, price gouging can only occur when an area is under a state of emergency.

Gov. Mark Sanford issued a release Wednesday afternoon about the gasoline situation.

This photo was sent in from Clinton Wednesday afternoon.

"It's important for everyone to remain calm and patient, and to conserve gas while we continue to work toward determining how to best address this situation," Sanford said. "Right now, we're doing a couple of things to respond. One, we're asking all state agencies to cut non-essential travel. Two, we're working with folks in the gas industry and with the federal government to find ways to keep gas flowing into South Carolina."

The South Carolina Petroleum Marketers Association said many retailers are paying more for gas than what they're charging consumers.

Pipelines servicing the Carolinas and Georgia from the Gulf coast have been inoperable since Hurricane Katrina came ashore Monday. Officials said that how long prices will stay high will depend on how long it takes to make the pipelines operational again.

Furman professor Dr. Tom Smythe said that people need to be patient and calm because panic buying will make the situation worse.

"If a lot of people go today and over the next few days to get gas and there's more demand than normal over that same kind of time frame, there could be problems," he said.

Department of Energy officials said the critical pipelines that feed fuel to the Carolinas are not damaged, but lack power to pump. DOE officials said that restoring power is a top priority, and that once the pipelines are back in operation, much of the shortfall would be remedied quickly.

Late Wednesday, Colonial Pipeline, owner of one of the two main pipelines, said it would begin pumping fuel again on Thursday, though it will be a gradual process to get back to even 50 to 60 percent pumping capacity.

It is 3.25 here in wi. My dh only makes 20,000 a yr and I'm not working cause it wouldn't pay to put my daughter in daycare plus I have a baby on the way in dec. We were already living on tight budget and now we are getting money from my dad every 2 weeks to afford food cause my dh went 2 weeks only eating once to make sure the rest of us had food. Food, gas, insurance is all going up and we aren't getting any extra money in. We don't qualify for housing assistance cause we are in a 3 bedroom and here they say kids less than 9 years apart can share the room even if they are boy/girl and we just signed a lease for here 2 mo ago so we are stuck. We can't get food stamps cause we'd have to bring in less than 500 a mo and there really is no help here. My dh works 6 miles away and has to take the car cause his hours are early morning ( they won't let him switch :( ) otherwise he'd take the bus and we only go out once every 2 weeks for groceries. My daughter and I just sit here cause there are no parks or anything nearby so....
I just pray things get better or we'll be on the street :(

We are on WIC for me and my daughter and my baby will be added when he's born. Everything else though we don't qualify for, we don't get medical assistance cause medical insurance is offered through my DH work which is costing us over 300 a mo and my daughters father has insurance on her. Other than the WIC we don't get anything.....that's why my dad is trying to help, but it's still hard

Gas went up AGAIN today - now we're at 1.39 9/10 per litre (do the math it's $5.29/gallon) and that doesn't account for the exchange on the dollar !!!!!!
