We're still with MOH, but my DSS had "Streams of Civilization" for high school at his Christian school. I really liked that book, and decided back then that I would be using it for high school. Michael had Vol. I; I'm not familiar with Vol. II, but figure it's as good as the first one.

WOW!!! That's an interesting site!!! I even found on-line French!

I did see where HSLDA is offering a history curriculum free when you sign up for a tw-year membership. I was discussing that with Carl. The funny part was, I had never heard of this curriculum before (Drive By History....I think?) Anyway, RACHAEL popped up with, "Yeah, I've heard of it....." That took me by surprise! I guess they advertise it on "Adventures in Odessey"! It looked interesting, and I may be able to use it to supplement American History next year, so I can teach all three together again.

I'm going to post it again on Homeschool Classifieds. Hopefully this time I won't get a scammer!

Jackie, guess what? A friend of mine, on my recommendation I might add, got MOH Volume 1. I guess it was a bit "cheeky" of me to recommend it, when I had never seen it! But I trusted you and the positive comments from others! ;)

She really likes it! At our Christmas Eve program, she handed me the book and said I could look it over during this week, since they're not schooling, but I have to give it back! :) Now that I have it though, I may not WANT to give it back ;) ! I have looked through it very carefully, and I really like it! There are many similarities between it and SOTW, but, as you say, the religious aspect of it it great! Now I'm torn. I still have stuff for the Middle Ages that I got for SOTW, but I feel having the religious bent to the program is really good! But it's more expensive than SOTW. MOH would be easier, cuz everything is right there. with SOTW I am adding this and that to it for the religious aspect, so we can compare world history with Bible history. But MOH has that all done already....

Plus I noticed suggestions for highschool age too. So it's possible to use it for a highschool level.

So now I need to decide. There are things from volume 1 that I could use with what I have for this year, then I'd need to buy volume 2.

    Hmmmmm, what to do?!

Linda Hobar's supplemental activities & inter-library loan recommendations for books & movies & her ideas for research papers make it very useable for high school. My dh has been a history buff for ages & claims even he has learned a lot from her MOH series! I just hope she gets the next book out in time for next yr! BTW, we also have Streams of Civ I and Streams of Civ II. They are excellent also. We draw from them, too, & from other resources. Whatever you use, it sounds like you'll be blessed with any of these choices!

Deena, you know MY opinion!!! MOH!!! Bite the bullet and BUY IT!!! We looked at SOTW, before I knew about MOH. I asked Carl for his opinion on it, and he told me straight out that he did NOT want me using it, because he felt we NEEDED history and science written from a Christian worldview. I wasn't too pleased with that, because I liked SOTW, but of course I listened to him. And I'm SO GLAD I did!

Prairie, how does it work using Streams with MOH?

Beings how I didn't really hear of MOH until more recently, I have enjoyed working with SOTW, and supplementing with Old and New Testament materials from www.timelinesetc.com So, our timeline on the wall DOES have both world and Biblical persons and events on it. HOWEVER, my husband's philosophy is, "Give up the good to get the better, and give up the better to get the best." As a Christian parent, I feel like SOTW has been BETTER than any other History curriculum I have ever run across! But maybe now it's time to give up the better, and go with the Christian-based curriculum. And with all the great things I hear about MOH, it may just be that it's the BEST that I have been looking for!

Hey, if I use my mfh's own logic, how can he refuse?! :D

Prairie, thanks too, for your comments! That helps me lean to almost falling over toward MOH! :D

    Kris,

Hey Kris, its maverick Tina here!

Some high school programs that I have been looking over are Truth Quest and Notgrass

Here is the link for Notgrass
    http://www.notgrass.com/index.php

    They offer:

We offer world history, American history, and U.S. government curricula for high school students.

Here is the link for Truth Quest

    http://www.truthquesthistory.com/

    Here is what they say:

The main TruthQuest History series (seven guides which begin with ancient history and fully cover European and American history to just after the year 2000) are designed for Grades 5-12.

Truth quest does offer a volume for younger grades as well, and if I can remember correctly Notgrass is more of an emphasis on high school.

Right now, we have really been enjoying outlining from the Kingfisher Book and studying primary sources.

I have ordered several primary sources from Jackdaw and plan on ordering some more.

Too, we just love our SOTW. It has been great!

I also waffled back and forth about it, but I did like the fact that Cathy Duffy had it listed as both Protestant and Catholic view. I just want to try to get a balanced view from both sides, if that is possible..

My thing has been math---trying to figure out which direction I want to go with it and WHEN..;)

Deena, big hug! Yes, yes....life has been crazy because of the 2 moves in one year this year....Sooooo,

we do what all normal people under stress like that --we take about a month and half vacation..

We started out in Florida, Disney Land then went up the east coast through D.C. and hit New York and came back down and topped it all off by staying at Myrtle Beach in North Caroline.

Then I promptly came back and started a field trip group for our area...It was meant to have just have a few families, and it was small for 2 weeks:lol: ..Now we have 30 families and are plannning field trips every month..

We just went to the Benjamin Frankin exhibit while it was here at Houston and then we are having a Bible Character party...AND...

I taught a Native American Co-op. We sewed our leather costumes (the ones in our picture) and did a lapbook..

    WATCH OUT KIDS...MOMS BACK!!

So now I have come out both barrels blasting with school to play some catch up..

Can you believe we're all talking about highschool now?! Our kids were so much younger when we were at abcteach! [/quote]

I CAN"T believe this!!! Kinda of scary..but let me tell you girlfriend, I have been reading everthing I can get my hands on and going to workshops about high school and college...

The differences you know between AP,CLEP and dual credit are all swirling around in my head.

Too, I have written out my oldest subjects from 7th grade to 12th grade with notes:p ..Kind of an overview so that I know where I am going..

I have so much more to catch up on....but you know...I have save some for later...

And Lorna when we all first started, we were worrying about high school instead of Kindergarten and ABCS:oops:

Even now when my newbies come to me and are overwhelmed, it is so hard for me to contain myself and say *GOODNES GRACIOUS..your child is only 3yo*..BUT then again, i have lots of sympathy because I felt the same way..So a big hug to them and a GUARANTEE that by the time they reach high school, they will be tons smarter and if they aren't ...ROFL..at least they will act that way..ROFL.

Too, they seem to make the best homeschooling parents..very conscientious, kwim?
