    from the swine flu?

My dh bought disinfecting wipes which he instructed his office personnel to clean door knobs, etc. at least once a day. He also bought hand sanitizer. I got hand sanitizer for my boys to take to their office's also.

We are also getting another flu shot as the nurse said it may offer some protection.

    Nothing out of the ordinary.

We always try to be as sanitary as possible and stay away from people that we know are sick. Aside from locking myself indoors, which I refuse to do, there really isn't much I can do that is different or that will help.

We can only take precautions. A person can spread the flu BEFORE they have syptoms. So, I am just going to use anti-back wipes, have my kids wash their hands, etc. Personally, I would like to wear plastic gloves when I go to the grocery store...LOL...but I'd think about that anyway! LOL. Only because my family is too big to get sick...we are out for a month or more with 6 in the family. Honestly my biggest concern is church. Other than that its fairly easy to avoid germs. Yet, we still get sick. So, what can you do? Pray! Pray this thing ends quickly and no more lives are lost.

Yes this is my answer too.

I'm not stressing about it at all.

We're going to start taking vitamin C, make sure everyone keeps their hands clean and away from their face, avoid sick people, and avoid being in large crowds. We will probably stay home more than usual, and when I have to shop I am going to go alone instead of taking the kids along.

This is a great idea for everyday not just in a crisis!

I take Vitamin C and Echinacea all the time anyway. There is some stuff called Emergen-C that is a poweder you mix with juice or water but it taste way better with cranberry juice. It is 1000 mg of Vitamin C and I drink it daily. About once a month for a week I take 3 echinacea pills a day to help build my immune system.

I have to say it works because when everyone around me gets sick with the flu or whatever I never get it. Sometimes I feel bad for a day or so but I never actually get anything. It is like my body is fighting whatever it is off if that makes sense.

Thank you for reminding me about Emergen-C! I have a ton of that which I forgot about!
Most of the things I listed we do all the time, it's just good sense, IMO. Avoiding groups of people right now just seems to make sense too. Although my girls have a dance recital coming up, so we can't miss that unless things get real bad.
Do you all think it would be silly to make them wear face masks to dance practice?!

when is the dance recital? I would wait and see how bad it is before you go, and then decide.

Tiffany don't have Vitamin C or that other stuff, need to go to store and check that out and give us all some good vitamins.

Several schools have been shut down in my area. I always try to keep my kids away from sick people, so I will continue with that. I'll also encourage more hand-washing, but I'm not going into hiding--yet.

So far though....this is acting like a regular flu though right? Even with the regular flu there are deaths annually.

I think I will pick up some Emergen-C and echinacea. I have vitamin C but we are almost out.

I saw on the news the difference between the swine flu and the regular flu is they don't have a vaccine for the swine flu. Those vaccines will take 4-6 months to be ready. That is a long time to wait.

There are other measures which can be taken, anti-viral rx from your dr. if he suspects you have the flu.

    protect

One thing I think most people don't think about is that the swine flu is viral, not bacterial. So, even though it is smart to use anti-bac wipes and stuff, it won't kill viruses. Vitamin C and echinecea are one way to go. You might also want to try some colloidal silver, but be careful which brand you buy because most of them don't work, or can be harmful. I don't think I can post brands on here, so if you want to know what I use, PM me.
My family gets sick with colds MAYBE twice a year at the most, and we haven't had the flu in years. When we do get colds, I pump the kids with vitamin c, echinecea, and if after 2 days it is still there, I use the colloidal silver. There are other things I do to, but when I use the colloidal silver the cold disapears within 12-24 hours.

I"m not too worried yet, its not showing up in our state as of yet, and I did hear its not NEW...... just that its never shown up in the USA before. ........ we don't have any out of the country trips planned...... though I do worry with my husband...... they pass around so much at his work... I think I will remind him to use the hand sanitizer more....... a lot of his co-workers do go in and out of Mexico a lot.

I think they need to have a room when you go into the hositpal or doctors office with the signs of it and keep you away from people. I don't understand medical field they are yelling like crazy down here any signs don't go to work but go to doctor. I don't know get it when you go, in for something else you are sitting in the office with a patient or two that has it and bingo guess what it's traveling again.

The local hosp are taking patients with flu like symptoms and putting them into a pressure type room that is supposed to not allow the virus to spread. They are being quarintined from the other patients.

Even if someone is not feeling ill, they should be cautious about their OWN germs by not sneezing into the air, washing their hands, etc. You can be infected and not know it while you are spreading the virus.

I know they aren't doing it here, our neighbor lady took her daddy for check up and said there was some one there that looked really bad. So, I called and cancel Mother In Laws check up for a few days till I see where this is leading and if they put the sick away from those that aren't.

Didn't it show up in '76, cause a huge panic, and result in one death from the virus and then a ton of problems from the hastily created vaccine? Or am I mis-remembering?
