Okay, someone give me some ideas, that are not costly and are fun, with some activities but yet we can stay for more than a day and not go into the poor house?

So far I am thinking Pismo beach cause if we get gas on the way its cheaper and lasts longer hehe, and there is a great little beach spot camp site we could stay for a few days and a cute small town beach front place to go for salt water taffy and ice creams!

We just came from a short vacation from Arizona. We do have friends their and we usually stay with them or take our camper. My kids love going on desert runs where they look for all kinds of neat rocks. We usually have a bonfire and spend the whole day out their. It is really neat seeing the desert plants and how they are or aren't flowering each year because of weather changes. Anyway we tend to do alot of these types of vacations and they are very inexpensive. Last summer we took our motorcycles on a 2500 mile trip and packed only our sleeping bags, tent and a few clothes. That was alot of fun too. But I'm sure not everyone has motorcycles, but you just adapt to what your family enjoys. Good luck and have fun wherever you go!

Any local state parks- a lot of times they have cabins fairly inexpensive!

We haven't done this, but some friends have, and I've thought it would be fun, just for a change of pace. Instead of driving very far, and spending so much on gas, find a semi-local hotel that has a swimming pool and continental breakfast, and spend a weekend there! It's neat for the kids to be able to swim whenever they like, nice if it also has a workout room, and saves you from making beds and cooking breakfast in the morning! It's a neat little mini-vacation that's not TOO expensive!

We also stay home for our vacations! Hubby takes off from work, we plan on going out to eat for our meals so I don't have to cook and we do all the fun family things that we talk about doing "some day"! :D

I would agree with the State Park. Or maybe there's a city with a lot of attractions close by, where you can spend just one night.

This summer, we're going to Philadelphia to see King Tut. We'll be camping at two different state parks in Pennsylvania, spending a week at each.

Why not deena? Why not pick a state in between and drive along teh i80 and go for it!
My friend I met online from Canada and her family met us in Idaho once when they lived in northern Alberta.
IT was so cool! Her dad had some property there so they set up a tent for us and we camped out and had a camp fire bbq and everthing it was great and our kids all made friends!
OH!< Deena have you been to Kalaloch?
its over by Forks, its supposed to ahve camping but we went to the Lodge cabins for our honeymoon nearly 19 years ago ,( well this year) \

Haven't heard lately, which is probably good news. If there were any problems, I'm sure either she or Heidi would have informed us.

how cool! Deena east of you is pretty much everything though hehehe
So far I am planning or co planning a family reunion, we will have games and visiting times, probably bring a kareokee machine so everyone can act silly Lol.
I am trying to plan it in between Washington and California, but not in ORegon hahaha! go figure that one out, I do not like Oregon bad stuff happens to me there! Cars break down, then eventually die and you buy a bad car that ends up blowing up when you finally litterally give it to someone as a blessing!
long story! but sufice it to say I do not enjoy Oregon hehe, but one of the cousins who are louder in voice than I suggested that, So far I have lots of people wanting to go to the closest place to me, but my Aunt, the oldest living relative wants not to go there. So we are scrambling cause its end of Aug our group gets together, most of us will camp, some will hotel.
any ideas of FUN < Water play motorcycles are a must, plus a baseball feild and place to run relays like 3 legged races etc, old fashioned fun!
