I can't stand it either, but whenever the marathon is on tv the day before Christmas, Hubby is glued to the tv laughing his butt off.
This is how we feel exactly! Well said, lovinhomeschool! JenPooh, you asked what was wrong with Evan Almighty. We are just not comfortable with this type of movie, and the previews that they showed here did not change our minds. I did think about what you wrote, so I did some further investigation. For us, Dr. James Dobson's review and final thoughts were very helpful. His description of the lack of reverence and his feelings that kept him from recommending the movie describe exactly why we can't compromise our beliefs by seeing the movie. Of course, not everyone has the same beliefs, and as I stated above, that is fine. What is right for one family isn't for another. I have seen some movies on this thread that some won't show that we love and others that we don't watch that others love. That is what is so nice about choice!
Well I saw no need to watch Passion of the Christ. BUT I do so like the 1956 movie, The Ten Commandments starring Charlton Heston. I like old movies though.
Has anyone seen The Nativity Story??? I really wanted to see that and was wondering if it was good. I saw The Passion and I cried. I'm not a subtitle kind of person though. Perhaps I'm just lazy. LOL
This thread reminds me of when my kids were a little younger. We were in a small group through our church with a couple that we were pretty good friends with. Our kids were the exact same age. We were having a discussion and the mom said, "well, my kids are allowed to say "crap" but will never be allowed to watch Pokemon!" I laughed and said "funny....my kids are allowed to watch Pokemon but better never say the word "crap!" LOL Just goes to show that everybody has their own way they interpret things and their own "moral compass" based on what they feel is right for them. Doesn't mean any one person is right or wrong... I personally, am like kris, jenpooh, monkeymamma, and crystal. I preview the movie first, and if I feel it is ok, then they watch it. We LOVED Bruce Almighty, Napolean Dynamite (although it took a couple of times before I even understood the dumb humor!) and almost all Disney movies.
My whole family LOVES A Christmas Story! My neighbor was even Flick in a local play. Ya know the kid that gets his tounge stuck to the pole. Well everyone has different tastes right? That is what makes the world an interesting place. Dh and I both watched Passion and we both loved it although DH didn't like the subtitles. I like stupid British comdedy and it is growing on dh. I LOVE Monty Python!!! And all teh British shows on PBS.
Wow. . .there's a whole party going on here and I missed it! We didn't watch the Passion. . .I just can't see things that are violent but that's just me. Judging from the last few comments I think we're more conservative than most. We took are then young kids to see Lilo and Stitch and regretted it. We also took them to see Finding Nemo and regretted it. They're a little older now though so I don't think we'd feel the same way. We generally get reviews of of plugged in. I find that they are moderately unbiased. Like instead of saying that a movie is bad they may say, "The movie has one part where the character says this. . ." and then you can judge whether or not you want your kids to see it. There's tons of Disney that we don't do. . .but tons we do do too. Anyways, sorry I'm so late!
Hi guys So I havn't read the whole thread because it is like 5 pages long. I wanted to ask what is Neopolitin whatever? Arrg! I already forgot what the name is, I read it back on page 1. I have never even heard of it, maybe it hasn't come here yet. Sounds like an ice cream flavour  Also Evan Almighty, what is that about? Also what is wrong with Shrek? My 5 year old watched that with us. While I don't like barbie the doll, the princess Barbie movies are beutiful. The ones we have 12 dancing princesses, Rupunzil, princess and the pauper and the nut craker.
we took our kids to see one, can't remember the name now, but it was about penguins...Not March of the Penguins...came out right after that... Anyway, we really wished we hadn't. FireHouse Dog was good. We took ds4 who Loves firetrucks. he cried when he thought the dog died.
For me, shrek has too much adult humor in it. I only seen about 5 minutes of it and decided my kids will not watch it. But, most people would argue that the kids wouldn't get the adult humor anyway.
OHGran- Yep, we did post at the same time How odd is that! At that exact time we were thinking the same thing! Cool I didn't like Happy Feet either! Don't like adult humor in a childrens show.
It was ALMOST as bad as when I went to see titanic with my best friend and another friend, both male. I didn't know I promise!
