Us too! No Spiderman, no Incredibles, no Pirates, & we're not letting our HUGE transformer-fan son watch the movie when it comes out either.

and that was well said. To me, when I look at a movie I consider whether or not the content will help them 'make every thought obedient to Christ' and/or whether or not the movie will in any way be in conflict with "whatever is good, pure, Holy and right. . .think on these things"

LOL I could probably go on. . .I did a large study once on the effect of media and a child's mind. . .but I'll stop so that I don't bore you all.

YES, seems comercials are now 'anything goes'. That is why the tv is RARELY on. Except PBS certain shows for the kids.

Did you see the one with the massage oil and the naked ladies running around in only underwear!

    We watch dvd only.

We watched the Nativity story and liked it. We watched with with our seven year old but she got bored and we put a movie on upstairs for her.
We have watched most of the movies listed above. DH and I are having a date night and going to see the new HP movie coming out. Then will buy it. I have all the books and movies so far.
We don't care for the new King Kong (didn't even finish that one) or the newer Willy Wonka and the Choclate facorty. The newer remakes are just not as good as the old ones. Okay I do like the newer version of Cheaper By the Dozen but still like the org.

I don't like most of the remakes either, Bewitched, King Kong, Spiderman, Charlie and the chocolate factory, etc etc. I prefer the older versions and that is all my children will see when I approve.

I have a rule that they're not allowed to watch anything without reading the book first. (Either I read it to them or they read it--whichever is appropriate.) Anyone else do that?

I mention it bc C&the CF was a non-issue bc we haven't read the book! LOL

I can't think of a G or PG movies we've ever not let the kids watch. They've seen a lot that I don't like and a lot that I have a lot of contempt for but I find that if we simply discuss the movies they get a good idea of why I have objections and what values led me to those objections.

Nudity I have no problems with in movies. Sex scenes can wait but my kids are quite used to seeing nude people as I sketch nudes quite often from art websites.

I do remember watching Clash of the Titans with the kids though. We were doing lots on greek myths and I thought this one might be fun as it was horribly inaccurate and the kids could pick out the wrong stuff (we do watch some movies with the sole intent of picking them apart). I'd invited one of the neighbourhood kids to watch it but he had to go home.

    Thank goodness.

Within the first five minutes there was nudity. Nice and ordinary nudity, nothing sexual and my kids barely thought anything about it but if I'd had to explain to another parent with differnet values why I was showing his kid naked lady movies...

Yes. It recently dawn on me as these movies have come out to implement the "read the book first" rule. All of my children are avid readers of good literature so this should not be a problem because those are leisure reading.
I don't think movies cause my children to break wind ~ they are going to do what their bodies need to do. I just have taught them to have manners so when there is potty humor yes they laugh but they don't go around doing it.
I screen movies for content and if I find one that is particularly crass even though it is made for children I may decide that just isn't worth watching. Movies are for entertaining but if they have no worthwhile content then I see no point in it. We can do something else valuable with our time.
I haven't ruled out Transformers yet. I am assuming it is PG-13 because of violence. It maybe something we watch at home with TV Gaurdian. I am waiting on a review from www.christiananswers.net or Unplugged

    Just to clarify. . .

it's not that I'm horribly worried about farting or that I believe that if my kids see it in a movie they're giong to do it. LOL I just find that it's kind of crass--definitely not the worst out there or the most concerning--and the closer the line is to the edge the easier it is to cross.

Besides we've been potty training someone for nearly 6 years now and we've been in diapers for 8. . .surely I can do without any more bodily function humor at my dinner table.

We own all of them except Valiant. Never heard of it. I really like Over the Hedge. Series of Unfortunate Events is different but we like it. And Matilda has to be one of our families favorite movies! I bought it at our library book sale for $1!

Oh I also wanted to add somehting about nudity. I'm not against nudity. Samantha and I study various different artists throughout the year. There is a lot of nudity in art and I am fine with that. Michelangelo is one that we studied that has a ton of nudity in his work. We looked at it together and discussed it in a normal rational way. My daughter wasn't like "Ew look at that!" or anything. It doesn't phase her now at all and we can discuss any piece of art.

My problem is that in todays society sex sells and so they sell it all over the place. It isn't "art" when the girl on tv is dressed like a hooker and may very well be one secuding some guy or vice versa. Sometime we are watching something and the BAM there is a breast for no apparent reason! Or watching a Saturday afternoon movie on a raining day and a commercial comes on that is nothing but scantily clad, oiled up women giggling like idiots. I really get steamed over things like that!!! The tv station didn't give me a choice or even a warning that was about to be shown so I could make the decision about letting my kids see it. And yes Samantha has seen some nudity in movies. There was a brief moment in a Shakespeare play we saw together. But it wasn't nasty and trashy.

Nudity with a point ( like art ) is one thing. Nudity for the sake of showing naked women with no other purpose other than to try and make the big bucks in sales is something I feel is totally different.

This nudity debate is always interesting to me bc everyone defines 'art' differently.

Maybe it's because Jeannie is only six, but there are no movies I would let her see right now. There are just a few shows on Nickelodeon I let her see, and that's only if I don't disagree with them. It seems like there's nothing but trash and more trash being put out. I do, however, miss the Ninja Turtle movies from Kevin's day. I really got with Vanilla Ice in that oneTMNT movie!

I agree. Sometimes however the motivation behind the nudity doesn't need to be apparent to a kid. The nude scenes in Clash of the Titans were likely there for crass reasons. However, when I watched it with my kids they just came across as a nude women walking down the beach. Still, while I'm perfectly comfortable with my kids watching movies and such with nudity and even some sexuality I am uncomfortable with, say, a lot of music videos. So Clash of the Titans gets watched while Much Music (the canuck MTV) hardly ever gets switched to.

I think the 'read the book first' thing is interesting too but not something I'd impliment. We love movies in our house. Love them. We're as avid with movie watching as we are with reading and I don't think one medium should get first dibs. :)

Honestly, and this is just my opinion, there really isn't a valid reason for nudity in any film. The director can get the point across without it, IMO. Can you tell I don't like nudity in movies? LOL! ;) Personally, it just makes me uncomfortable. Maybe because of situations from my past.
