I'm posting this here because it doesn't fall under the Christmas one. I found this recipe for soft sugar cookies and we liked them. I will say in advance that the salt flavor was a little strong and the texture reminded me of the Sandies type cookies. They were good, though. The recipe doesn't state this but I mixed my soft/liquid and then added the dry ingredients. I baked them on 325 as my oven is fickle.

    Soft Sugar Cookies
    1 cup shortening
    1 cup sugar
    2 eggs
    2tsp. vanilla
    2 1/4 cup sifted flour
    1/2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt

Drop by spoon onto greased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned. Cookies should be soft. Cool slightly, then remove from baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes at 375 degrees.

So the stoneware worked well? I don't have any stoneware & never thought I'd need one, but I may reconsider. Pampered Chef is the only source of s.w. I know of, & they're quite expensive...

Yes, it is expensive, but well worth it. I've got several piieces, and use them pretty regular. I could easily sell all my Corning cassaroles! If it goes in the oven, I put it in stoneware. If it goes on top of the stove, I use my caste iron. I had a PC show a few years back, and got me TWO stoneware loaf pans. I was hesitant about buying two, but am glad I did! The bread recipe I finally settled on makes two loafs. You CAN get it from other sources, but I don't know of any, just that they exist.

I only use Pampered Chef s.w. too. I got them by having PC shows, cuz they're awfully expensive otherwise! They're great!

My cookie press recipe uses margarine and butter. It claims you must us both. Patty, please post a recipe for a cookie press cookie. Pretty please! lol. I had a bit of success with my cookie press...but...my % of bad cookies was higher. Maybe it was the margarine. You think I can just sub butter for margarine...that would be double butter?

I have some really good recipes. I have an awesome recipe for Oreo Truffles. It is such a good recipe and so easy, that you must know I am only posting it because I love you all, as this recipe has made me a hero in my town. LOL. Anyway, I will be back with a recipe for two in a bit....should have known Sunday was not a day to be online until after dark. lol. We have church twice on Sundays.

Amy, I'll post the recipe for the press I made last night, but not now because I'm in a bit of a hurry. They turned out really good! Look for it on the cookie recipe page, probably sometime tomorrow!

Yep!!! A friend had a party last year. I coudln't go, but I DID give Carl a copy of the catalog with a few things circled and told him that any of them would be acceptable Christmas presents for me, lol! He bought the small bar stone for me (which I keep forgetting I have!!!), and the press. He gave me the press about this time last year, figuring I'd want to use it BEFORE Christmas.

Also, anyone who wants pampered chef stone and can't afford them they have them on ebay too. I don't know what they go for. I throw all mine away.

KRIS!!! Don't throw them out!!! When you come up to Ohio, bring them with you and I'll teach you how to use them!!!

Right now I'm mad at Pampered Chef. Well, just with one consultant. I was suppose to have a show back in September. It HAD to be September, because the Hostess Gift was 60% off of a stone, and I REALLY wanted this one stone! So she scheduled (and it was the ONLY date we could get!), but I also had County Fair earlier that week. This darned gal didn't get in touch with me, etc. Finally I called her. To make a long story short, I didn't know how many for sure were coming, she deicided it wouldn't be enough to be worth her time, and pressured me into cancelling. I was VERY upset!!! And then, she has the nerve to send me an e-mail in October, telling me about all the "great bargains", etc.!!! I sent her one back, telling her that she was to take me off her list, and that I was considering complaining to PC about her poor service!!! Well, next September I'll find a decent consultant, and get my stone!!!

Ok, Jackie I will give them to you to use. I think they are heavy to lift in out of the stove.

I copied recipes from you both, Kris & Jackie, from the cookie recipe thread & am going to gather together all my resolve & try my presses once again. Thanks in advance!

Also, Kris, thanks for the idea to look on ebay for stones. One thing, however, about them--I have friends who really like them, but they get to looking so stained and awful after just a few usings. Is there any way to prevent that?

I just followed your suggestion, Kris, & have a bid in on ebay & will have to buy them if I remain the top bidder; but I got to thinking that if you are serious about getting rid of yours, that I'd prefer my dollars to go to someone I "know," IYKWIM. If you'd like to sell yours, you may pm me. I hope I'm not breaking protocol here. Buying on ebay is fine, too, I have nothing against that--am only offering if this would bless you. And if it goes up any higher on ebay, I won't be buying that set.

Prairie, they turn dark. That's all there is to it. It's the sign of a well-seasoned stone. The darker it is, the better it cooks. PC actually has two different stones. The first ones are your "regular" stones. Then they came out with stones that were glazed on the outside, in white or cranberry. These look prettier, but they are also more expensive. I'm fine with the original ones, but the stone I "need" only comes with the more expensive finish. Another thing about stones is that you NEVER use soap on them. You use hot water, and a nylon scraper. The nylon scraper also works very well on my caste iron skillets and Dutch Oven.

The problem with you getting them from Kris will be shipping expense. They are VERY HEAVY!

You can ask the seller to ship them at a flat rate. There are two flat rate shipping boxes available. They may not be big enough but I would give it a shot. The flat rate is $8.10.

You're right, Jackie. In some cases, the shipping that was listed was more than the item! Anyway, I think Kris said she'd give them to you, so you have first chance. :) And that's fine with me, if you do. Shipping--around $10 whole dollars a piece & sometimes more! But from the last PC catalog I saw, even with shipping, the ones I have my eye on are still less than 1/3 price, slightly used. (If no one bids me up, that is.) So I could live with that. Just the thought of packaging them for shipping wears me out, so if it's not worth it to Kris, I'll certainly understand, & moreover, I'm still watching the set I bid on.

According to your description, I must have seen some very "well seasoned" stones! Thanks for the input, Jackie! I enjoy trying new things!
