Timkelmom, I think your RV life sounds like a dream come true! I have always wanted to do that. It, however, does not appeal to my dh. I guess it isn't for everyone. I know I would LOVE to one day have an RV and travel all over the USA. What a dream! Please share with us all your experiences! I know I would be the kind of gal to go to all the crazy things like the world's biggest corndog and animals with six legs exhibits. lol. When I was kid, my parents and my brother and I, traveled from Ohio to Colorado and stopped at all the crazy stuff. For VBS this year, we did Route 66???, and all the videos were about these kids who lived in RVs. I was so jealous! lol. Kris, do you travel all over to? I was thinking you lived in a trailor and not an RV. If you ever come up to Ohio, ladies, look me up! Oh and take me along...I am very low maintainance!
Oh I would LOVE to go several time a year! But am so thankful and blessed to be able to go ONCE a year. My dh's parents go other times through the year, they really enjoy that. There is SOOOO much more to Disney than people realize. Most people think of Disney as the Magic Kingdom.....oh man...if they only knew, huh? I would love to check out the Disney forums. You can share them here or pm me if that is more appropriate. Thanks!
I know what you mean. I am always explaining to people what the "World" actually is, that it's not just MK. The forum I visit daily is www.mousebuzz.com. There is also www.talkdisney.com, www.wdwmagic.com, www.mouseplanet.com, and www.allearsnet.com. There are others, these are just the few I know. I frequent MB. That is my home away from home.
I just want to take my kids ONCE. Unfortunately, Disney vacations aren't in our budget! We checked into going last year, but it was way more than we could afford. Maybe before they are grown....
I hope you get there sometime. I know many, many money saving tips. If you ever get seriously planning, let me know, I would be happy to help. It can be less than you think. We couldn't go as often as we do if we didn't go on a budget.
My dh's family wants to go as a group. I seriously doubt we can afford it this year. However, let me know any tips if you can. We do plan to go in the next two years....possibly using our tax return. What tips do you have? Any websites or travel agencies you recommended. It has been something we have wanted to do for years.
I would love to know all the tips too. Can you post them here that would great. Ava Rose, yes we have been in a RV for going on 3 years. Hubby travels with work, when needed this is the longest we been in one place for along time and we are getting ants in our pants to get moving if you know what I mean. We have been to 28 states so far and counting them. The girls have learned so much.
I wouldn't mind money-saving tips either! I grew up in Southern CA, and went to Disneyland many times a year with family, friends, and school outings. But it's been probably 20 years since I went last! I'd like to take my kids at least once also! I feel selfish going so many times, and them never having been there!
Yea, Deena, I would love to take the girls we been there many times. I thought it was very pricey. That is why I would love to find some tips to take them again. They are asking to go, so bad. But, I think it's pricey so any tips would be wonderful
You can actually get books from the library about doing Disney on a budget. It also has tips on how to best avoid the crowds. Sorry I don't have a title for you! I know one tip is to take food in a cooler and eat at your car. When we went with my DSSs 'way back, we ate one meal at the car, and one in the park. We went a few years back with my younger kids. My parents paid, and it was...interesting...to say the least. Phillip was probably about 18 months, and ran a fever!
Two books I highly recommend are the Birnbaum's Walt Disney World book and the Unauthorized guide. These are great references. Your local library should have both, although they are aften out. You don't have to eat at your car. They have lockers where you can store your cooler until lunchtime. You will hear that outside food is not allowed, this is not true. If you don't bring a huge cooler (remember, it has to fit in a locker) and don't make a big deal out of it, it's no problem. We have had security guards joke about meeting us for lunch. We only do this sometimes however.
Would you guys like tips posted here or would you like a completely separate thread? I recommend checking out the sites I mentioned as well.
I'd love to know tips. When we checked into it last year, it would have been over $4000 to go. That did include airfare. One thing that's so expensive for us id the lodging. Because there are 6 of us, we either have to get 2 hotel rooms or an expensive suite-type room. This is why we always take beach vacations. We rent a condo, eat most of our meals there, and our entertainment is the beach. Keeps the costs way down!!
Check out the Disney thread. Have you ever considered camping? It can be more expensive with 6 people.
Kris, with an RV it can be not too bad! The campground is the only place we stay. It is way less than any of the other resports.
