they just now posted a hurricane watch for our area. The stores are nuts everyone is stocking up. DH came home from jury duty today and went to fill up the van and he was gone for 45 mins. I was getting worried we live about 4 miles from the gas station he finally had dd call me and tell me the line was long they had 6 ahead of them yet. We got our boards cut for the windows today waiting to see if we have to put them on. Right now they are saying we should get some high winds and lots of rain. I hope that is all we will get. Jen, I am coming for the hurricane party I told dh about it he said yea I always wanted to go to a hurricane party. Tif, I will pm you my phone number ok.
Right now Dolly is just over 400 miles from Corpus, Kris. They are still saying it won't be a really bad hurricane, but be cautious anyway.
Kris I have your number and I sent you a pm with mine. We are here is you need anything! I remember 3 - 4 years ago when Rita a Cat 5 was headed right for Galveston. Talk about nuts at the gas station! That was when Sam was still in ps. I remember she missed the bus home and traffic was already crazy. My husband had just left in our only car to get gas, bread and water. I had to send a neighbor to pick her up. It took my dh about 3 hours to get 5 miles and back. After that we boarded up, secured all the patio furniture and stuff and proceeded to have a neighborhood party with what else but Ritas! We lost power for 3 days but we had plenty of food and drinks. We slept on the living room floor with all the windows open and a gun under dh's pillow. We still have the plywood on the side of our house in case we need it again. Kris stay safe and update us when you can!
I am about an hour north of SA so we are not going to get anything nearly as close as Kris is. My dad freaks out because of the tornadoes that are spawned sometimes from the hurricanes. He wants me to head to NM. Silly dad. Be careful Kris, I will pray for you and yours.
We are kinda getting some of the waaaayyy outer bands. It is about to pour and the wind is picking up a little. We can use the rain!!
Here in San Antonio, we're not expecting rain until tomorrow. We really need it!! I have noticed that the projected area has shifted a little more south. Landfall is expected in Northern Mexico or South TX. I looks like Kris's area is now falling under a tropical storm warning with more southern cities being under a hurricane warning. Of course, that can change, so be careful, Kris!!!
ok Ladies I have everything locked down and in shape right now. The stores are nuts. They have us under hurricane warnings yet. But, I think it still going to hit more south of us. We are suppose to winds 70 to 90 mph and some much needed rain. They also are worried about the tornado's that come with the storm so we will see. Had DH lock down a few things before he went back to court. Yea, he is on jury duty. Thanks so much for all the help and prayers ladies, I will let you all know what happens. If we lose power which I am hoping we don't I will call Sommer or Tif and let them know. We will be fine. I just hope everyone else stays safe.
Kris it sounds like you have done all you can. Now I guess all you can do is wait. We are expected to get the rain tomorrow. I am going to take the girls to the pool after lunch because I know we won't be able to go tomorrow. You call me if you need anything!
Ladies, you all are being so sweet and kind. We will be fine, so far they are saying only 90 mph winds and rain so far, It's not that easy to run, I would if we could, but DH is on jury duty and still has work, so I wouldn't leave him here. It will be just some wind and rain.
When Rita was headed this way there were people all around us leaving. My parents begged us to come there and my brother called to say he was leaving. He called back later and said they went back home because after 2 hours on the road he had gone 5 miles. Rita was a Cat 5 right before it hit. The only thing we were really worried about was flying debris. Now if we lived as close to the coast as you Kris we would have been outta there. Lots of people tried then to leave and they all got stuck in jams on the road. People were hungry and running out of gas and just leaving their cars there and walking. When things like that happen people don't want to leave because they don't want to be stuck like that. They'd rather ride it out at home. We just made sure that we had an emergency bag packed up in case we had to get out last minute. Our neighbor with a boat stayed home too. We thought if nothing else we could float out. Kris does your hubby have to drive far to jury duty? Will he be able to get back home or is the traffic not that bad yet?
they just down grade us to a tropical storm warning right now, said the eye is suppose to hit south of us. I hope we get some rain though. Thanks for thinking of us.
Take care Kris let us hear from you after its over to make sure your ok. We were going into SA on Thursday but we may wait till Friday till all chances of rain are gone, I dislike driving in the rain people drive nuts with a bit of rain they freak. Sam
not to mention that since it hasn't rained in months everybody's windshield wipers will be dry rotted and not work. And the oil on the roads will be terrible. I am almost dissapointed. They are diminishing our rain chances. Before they said like 2-4 inches, now they are saying less then 1 inch. AHHH howcome Kris gets all the good stuff.
This is so funny... Our area is soooo dry... We got one band of sprinkles... Never hit the ground.... It is so dry out here, you could almost hear it sizzle. hahahaha! A few moments later we got a rain band. Lasted for about 3 minutes. The street dryed up in 2 minutes! AARRGHH!!
