we just finish boarding up, the tank it full, water in house, with can goodes.

If you look at that map that Marylyn posted, you can all see right where we live right in the middle of the eye. If you see or hear Corpus Christi we are right there. about 3 miles from it.... close to Rockport.

My dh is out shopping now. Ugh.. The waiting to see which way it will go is awful. They still don't know how it is going to react with various weather patterns, so they don't know if it is going to continue to curve north (bringing it to Galveston and us), or if it is going to ride through them and stay south (heading towards Kris.) Rita looked a lot like this one, and ended up going north of Galveston and whacking Beaumont and western Louisiana.

Okay Kris I wanna know how I missed this thread before now! I was thinking of you today and told dh I needed to see how you are. We are far enough inland even if it does smack Galveston smack in the middle that we won't flood.

We are planning to board up tomorrow. We still have plywood left over from Rita. The kids are going to sleep in our bedroom, which will be boraded up, on an airmattress so we can all be together. We always lose power so if you don't hear from me it will more than likely be fine. A small storm knocks our power out. Our nieghbor has a generator and we will stay with them if need be.

I went grocery shopping today and we are fully stocked. The car is gassed up but we aren't giong anywhere. All the press conferences say to leave only if you are in danger of a storm surge which isn't me but Kris if it is you, you come stay with us girl! You have my numer and we have plenty blankets and air mattresses. Don't hesitate to call me.

Stay safe everyone near the coast when I heard Ike was near figured I would come here to check to see how everyone was doing. Heard at 5pm tonight there was a slight chance it could veer off to brownsville more missing San Antonio too.

They said we wont know for sure till Friday morning. My daughter is suppose to go to Animie girl scout meeting Friday night but we might postpone it till we know for sure.

Everything at our farm is put away from previous storms so not worrying about it too much but we do have our turkeys we would need to tie down better so it wont blow away with them in it!

Hubby called at 8:15. He finished work for the day (he began at 5am) and is off on the great generator search.

I told him not to worry, that if we loose power we can stay with our friends across the street who have a generator. He said he doesn't want to lose a whole freezer full of venison so he is out buying a generator. Yep ladies he is worried about his deer meat. He is such a man.

The girls and I are about to get going on our school work but I plan to have them take a break in a bit and help load all the backyard crap into the garage to secure it all. Then dh is going to board up a couple of our big windows.

You ladies around me and on the gulf coast stay safe!!

well now Ladies, they are still telling us to be careful but I think we are out of the woods for the most part, it's heading more and more north. We are board up. Alot of work mostly the second floor but we got it done. This morning they were saying we might not even get rain. All I can say I better get a drop all the work I through to get ready. LOL

Everyone north of us watch out. Saying more and more towards LA..

Marylyn you watch it and if you need to run come here I think we are pretty much safe and out of the way of it now. You too, Tif and Jen my doors are open..

Hey Kris I was hoping to hear from you this morning. Yep it is coming more this way. Looks like as of now it will make land around Freeport. There is a mandatory evacuation for West Galveston beach and Brazoria County. JenniferErix is way closer than me so let's hope her family is preparing well. Dh just stopped by to get our Armada and try to find a generator. He stopped at one Home Depot on the way home and said it was nuts, people everywhere. no generator. He is going up to Conroe now to find one. Wish him luck.

We are under a tropical storm watch, winds are expected to be 40-60 mph here with threat of tornados. My new mobile home did beautifully during Gustav (winds got to around 100mph here) so all we are gonna get is alot of rain and winds. My inlaws are on the most western part of La, near the Tx border~they all lost their homes in Rita so we are all hoping for the best for them~we may end up having houseguests in the next few days! lol! Who will be the closest to the location of landfall??? Everybody on the gulf coast check in so we can all keep track and tabs on everyone!!

Oh no! Dh went everywhere and then he called from the car to Home Depots in Huntsville and Porter and nobody has generators. There are trucks coming in but there is a waiting line already. On his way home he said every gas station on the main road to our house has lines to get gas and the one closest to our house is out of gas as are many along I45.

I hope we don't lose power for too long and lose all our food. We have been making our own ice for a while now and have plenty of that as well as food and water. Dh also brought home his must have item to ride out a hurricane - four 18 packs of BudLight! LOL!

    Good luck everyone!

Woo Hoo! We found a generator! Hubby is on his way to go get it now. He just happened to call his friend that works at O'Reilly Auto Parts and he said he had ten in a truck in route to the store now. He said everyone is calling asking them to hold one until they get there but they are telling everyone first come first serve - except my husband! It helps to have connections!

That sounds like a Texas man.

My DH is from Indiana and never takes these hurricanes seriously but I told him even if we live 180 miles inland, we can get the heavy winds and rains and then there is the likelyhood of tornadoes.

Last we heard it is going to shift further North and East. What this means for us in S.A. is we'll only get 2-4 inches of rain. We have friends in the Houston area and they are evacuating. They have already issued a manditory evacuation of galveston island which is only 12 ft. above sea level.

Praying for those in the areas that will be affected. (((hug)))

    Hey ya'll!
If you would like to keep abreast of News in Houston, and you have access to power and internet, try these links......

You can see freeways locked up and live news coverage.... (These are the links we stayed glued too!)

    Watch Houston FOX Live!
    http://www.myfoxhoustonlive.com/
CHOOSE Video Stream ONE or Video Stream TWO. Video Stream ONE is the LIVE broadcast. They are running 24/7 right now.

    Watch Houston CBS Live Now!

At the TOP of the MAP click on MAP CONTROLS and choose CAMERAS, then CLICK on any camera that you want to see.
IF you prefer a LIST of cameras click here:

The following images are LIVE, meaning they change as you see them. They will look different as the storm gets closer, of course. The direction that I say they are pointing is their originating position. They might be turned as the day wears on. (All of these cams are on the Cameras list, above. But I thought I would point out these particular ones....)

    As far as our family....
    We are boarded up.
    We are staying home.
We are SW of Houston, but 60 miles inland, so not worried of storm surge directly. However we are off the Brazos River, so....
I am worried about winds, we will be on the dirty side, so worried about winds...

Laja656 is a bit closer to the shore than me, but not by much. She has left and is moving out.

JenniBear is coming in closer to me, to a relatives' house, so she should be ok. (She just lost her laptop, her only computer, to damage, so no telling when she will be back on-line)

    What can you do?
    DONATE BLOOD

    DONATE CASH TO RED CROSS

Hugs and prayers to all of you facing Ike. We had Hanna last weekend and she turned out to be like a little kitten for us, but I'm afraid Ike is going to be like a lion for y'all. Do whatever it takes to BE SAFE and we'll be praying for you!

Thank you, Kris! We're far enough in, too, that we're not worried about water. Our neighborhood does not flood. Our big concern is a tree (or trees) falling on the house if there is a tornado.

The Salvation Army is also a good place to donate money/stuff. :)

Jen I am glad to hear Laja has gotten out because I know she lives in a trailer.

I am watching the mayor now.

I am anxious right now for Dwayne to get his butt home! I don't want him stuck in traffic. He is picking up extra gas cans for us and our neighbor so we will both have plenty of fuel to run both our generators. I am heading out now with Sam to clear the backyard and Dwayne will board up when he gets home. I got out all the flashlights and batteries we have and am charging our lantern - good things we camp because we have all the supplies plus a camp stove if we need it. I have become a pro at cooking on that thing.

Marylyn trees or flying debris are my concern too. Not flooding.
