Yep, just heard 40% of the Galveston stayed. Wow I would of left. We are getting the waves nothing like that. I should take some pics and show you. But, they wouldn't let me close, we are 1 mile from the coast they have the national guard blocking everything off. we are not in danger. That is why we didn't leave. We are only suppose to get the topical storm not the hurricane part.. We are suppose to get very little rain just alot of wind and that's it. for now. Oh Tiffany, I want a piece of steak, only if I can have a beer with it too.
Praying for him to get the work done and get down safely. Praying for all you guys in the storms path too.
Praying for your dh's safety!! Yes, I've been watching news all day too, and was glad to see that the path doesn't quite catch Corpus. Man, Kris, I was thinking how nuts you were! LOL Looks like y'all are safe! JenErix - stay safe!! Or get out. ;-) Watching from Austin... and I'll be around well after midnight I'm sure. They don't expect it to get heavy here until mid-day Saturday, but have warned us that power might go out. All activities are cancelled; school wasn't cancelled today but it did let out early. We were supposed to go camping with scouts this weekend, and of course that's out the window. LOL Ya'll all stay safe! Dh has to work tonight, so I'll likely be around looking for company and comfort.
Ds and Dh were supposed to go camping with scouts, too. The Council canceled all scout events here this weekend. I think we are in danger of the same possible tornado activity as Austin. Our TV/internet was out for a while this afternoon (AT&T issues, not the weather), so I'm just now catching up on just how bad Galveston already is. I heard one guy say he believes in God and God would take care of him, so he was staying. HMMM... I think God gave you a brain and a fair warning, too!
I am nuts what the hell you talking about, but I am not stupid I would never put my family in the line of anything. We were watching it and watching it close. WE are suppose to get hit tonight with high winds and stuff but nothing like Houston. I think they are nuts for staying in Galveston and Houston on the coast when they seen it coming.
My husband + speaker wire + liquid Nails + = One Fixed Vent...! jahahahaha He is Mc giver (I can t spell it) The storm is really kicking up now... We will be on the west wall of the eye wall from about 1am to 8am..... So I am off for the remainder of the storm..... We have me, DH, Twins, The girl, my teen cousin, and my mom, the gerbil, the cat and the dog. And pray for the roaches too.... goodness knows I could use some "Be nice to all living things" vibes.... Prayers to you all!
hahaha, pray for the roaches... that's classic. Kris, coming from someone who's only so-so with geography, I was relieved when I looked it up to see where Galveston is and where Corpus is in relation to it. LOL I just thought you were closer than what you were - THAT is why I thought you were nuts, because I was thinking that Corpus was a lot closer to Galveston! No worries.
Been watching the news alot this evening.. I can NOT believe how many stayed!! Oh are they nuts??? I see the same disgusting scenes we saw a few years ago with finding people and such. I don't know why anyone would risk their life like that, esp when they were told that they would face certain death if they stayed. Just thinking of it makes me sick!! Jen and Tiff, you guys stay safe tonight.. and tomarrow, and all of you ladies further inland, I'm thinking of you all too.
Me, either. They have been asked to write their names on their bodies with black marker, so they can be identified later. Can the officials be any more blunt? Get out people!!
We just finished getting ready. Really tired now. I can't get much, I love your pics you are posting. We fished off the 61st street pier in May. What burned exactly?
Hope all is well with all you in the path of the storms!! Praying for your safety. I'm sure that you won't read this until after it's all calmed down. I just had to post my cares for you all. Sounds like a LONG night. I'm glad we are WAY away from the coast. I don't think we will be seeing anything from this. As a matter of fact there are quite a few people in town from the evacuated areas. Anyhow, Stay safe. Angela
Thank you for your prayers for them. We just got word this evening that their house is now under water and the surge is still yet to come. Please keep them in yalls prayers as they just got this house 2 yrs ago after losing everything in H. Rita. As for here we are tremendously blessed as the weather has been really rough all day and tornados all around, and yet we still have power! PTL! We are expecting record flooding from the surge, but our house is on a high ridge, but the surrounding areas will probably be under several feet of water by tommorrow. In town, they are trying to build makeshift levees to try to keep the town from totally flooding. For the past 3 days the bayous have been swollen still from Gustav, and this morning they are over the banks, all this before the surge....I cant wait for hurricane season to be over!
Checking in... all the kids are alseep except for the frightened five year old. We have power, obviously.... Winds are nuts. UTMB, the hospital in Galveston has the first floor underwater. Many fires around town, a restaurant in Down Town Houston is burning. The neighborhood next to us is out of power, found that out because a reporter was on the freeway corner near our home, reporting it. We have lost part of our fence, but thankfully that is all that we know of so far. Also, thank God we have power, so the noise of the tv and fans running keep the babies calm and two of them are asleep. We are all down here in the living room with mattresses on the floor. It is like camping. Now, I have no problem staying here, although tornadoes can happen. But I cannot believe anyone stayed on galveston island.
I do understand how hard it must be to have to leave your home, but what is more important, a home or your life? It almost makes me not have any sympathy for those who were told to get out and didn't.
If my inlaws would not have left for Rita, they would have been washed away with their houses...........sadly we have word that they have lost their houses again.....
