My younger sister had Tammy. I had forgotten about her. I remember how her legs went out and she never could sit like a lady! Robinn loved her anyway and we played for hours at a time with her and Barbie.

"The official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle!"

lol... I am sure most of you recognize that line from a christmas story, right??

    Great movie!

And a BB gun was my favorite all time christmas present. It was my moms least favorite as I did end up in some costly trouble on two occasions.

Clothes were my least favorite. Hated the feel of new clothes then and still do today!

Just further proof that you are not the sum of all the parts of what you played with as a kid:

I played with Dominoes, Construction things, Race Tracks and the like. Never liked dolls, and could care less for barbie, make up or anything girly. Yet, I am the CRUNCHIEST Mommy in my generation in my family. (Breast-fed, Cloth Diapered, Homeschool, Make my own bread, etc...)

Whereas "they" (The other woman my age in my family) are the disposable moms who can't wait to get their kids out of the house, yet they played with dolls, make up and the like...

Obviously it is not a case study, but it is proof that if your little boy wants to play with lace and dolls, let'm! And your little girl can play with monster trucks! She'll be just fine!

Well, I "Think" I turned out normal, or ok. Hahahaha!

Oh wow I just remembered one of my favorites as a kid. I had a whole mini city that I drove cars on and around. It had a body shop, school, church, houses - everything - and it folded up like a suitcase so I could carry it. I also had a race track I would race my hot wheels around. Another favorite was a little blue suitcase that when you opened it up there was a record player in it. I wore out my old Bay City Rollers 45 on that thing. I played with star wars and G.I. Joes and lots of boy things but I also liked my dolls and baby carriage.

Okay I wish I was a kid again so I could look through the JC Penny catalog and pick out toys for this Christmas like I used to.

For my birthday one year I got a real live pony. I was over the moon! His name was Tony. Yeah I know Tony the Pony. But he was my dream come true. I let my best friend ride him and we would have such fun. Beth

I liked my Barbies. I liked Holly Hobby. Lincoln Logs and Tinker Toys are making a huge come-back I noticed! I loved the light-bright too. (although, the pegs would be great 'food' for the vacuum! Kind of like my kids' little Legos...

Deena, The funny thing about the pony was that neither one of my sisters liked him. They hardly ever touched him. My best friend and I would have lived in his little barn with him if our parents would have allowed it. He was a stubborn little thing but I loved him dearly. Beth

My sister asked for a horse, she was dead set on getting one this one year. My parents asked her, "But where would you keep it?" We didn't have much of a yard at that house, so she said, "I'd just keep it in my room!" After that I was glad she didn't get one, cuz we had the same room! I figured she'd rather have me moved into a corner or out, so she could have the horse in there! :)

Oh yeah, I absolutely LOVED Lincoln Logs! They were so cool----give me those anyday over a doll!

My daughter says her favorite Christmas present was Richard. He asked her to marry him on Christmas eve. One year I lost my engagement ring. It had been gone for several months. On Christmas eve night I was drying some clothes and heard a noise. Freddy went to check out the dryer and came back upstairs and said he thought my ring was caught in the works of the dryer. He said he would get it out but that it had been rubbing against the metal wall of the dryer so it would be messed up but maybe the diamond could be reset. After a while he came upstairs with my ring and it was not hurt at all! He gave it to me and we looked at the clock and it was midnight. He calls it our Christmas miracle. Beth

One year my sisters and I got a huge set of wooden building blocks. We loved them and played together with them a lot. The only problem was that the set had one real long block and one arch block. Of course we all three wanted those at the same time. Mama settled it fast. Whenever we fought over those blocks they went on top of the refrigerator for a while. Come to think of it they spent a lot of time up there. I guess we were slow learners. Beth

Oh Beth, I remember those too! I loved the long block and the arch block! We must've inherited them from cousins or something, cuz my parents usually didn't have enough money to get much. But I played with those a lot! I'm 3 1/2 years younger than my sister, and 5 years younger than my brother, so maybe they were past the block stage when I was playing with them, cuz I don't remember arguing over that. We certainly had arguments over other things though! ;)

I wanted to share a funny story.
One year, a few days until Christmas, my parents went shopping and left my brother, my three sisters and me alone. We all wanted to sneak a peak in a gift so we all picked one. This way nobody could tell on the other person later because we were all guilty.
Well, my oldest sister opened up a gift that had no tag on it and one that was for her. Her gift was a pair of pretty panties she had been wanting since she was growing up and cotton didn't do the trick anymore.
The other box with no tag was for my dad and it had socks inside. We heard my dads loud, old truck way up the street and put the gifts back in place quickly. On Christmas morning we all opened our gifts and my sister opened up a box of socks. Oh no!
She new where her undies were and knew we were very close to getting in trouble because of course if she took the fall, she would be sure we went down too.
Well, needless to say, my dad opened up a box with beautiful, colorful, lacy, panties with those strings that hold the sides together. They were not thongs but the sides looked like thongs. Well, my moms face twitched and tightened as she gave us the look. We knew we were in for a punishment. She ended up not following through. When my dad seen the panties he took a pair out of the box and looked at my mom and yelled, "What in God's name are you buying her rubberbands for. She is not married and has no business wearing rubberbands."
My mom contested that she was growing up and asked for something pretty and that they were not rubberbands. My dad stretched them out and he told my mom, "Oh, come on!!! Don't give me that. A rubberband would cover more then this!!!"
We ran to the room asap and left our parents to their heated discussion. Everytime my dad yelled, "Rubberbands", we busted up laughing because he would not dare call them anything else.
Well, we learned our lesson. Especially my sister. If she wouldn't have peaked in the boxes, they wouldn't have been mixed up and my dad wouldn't have taken them out of the box and called them rubberbands.
Now as I look back. I do not know what my mom was thinking buying her anything like this. They were not just pretty but sexy. I think pretty is okay but this was for a married women on her honeymoon.

I will admit to peeking in some presents too but we never did anything that funny. My three oldest told me they used to peek too. Little monsters!
Okay did anyone have Wheelo? I loved to play with mine. Beth

Two things come to mind when you say Wheelo. Can you describe it more? Then I'll know how to answer! :)

It was a heavy wire bent into a big U shape with a handle and it had a wheel with magnets on each end of a little axle. The wheel would spin up and over the U and back again over and over. It sounds dumb now but it was fun. You can still buy a cheap version sometimes at the dollar stores but I haven't seen a real one in a long time. Beth

Yep, I had that and loved it. I was the only one in my class one year that could get it around the end and back up over the u!

What about what we called "clack-its"? THe balls on the end of the strings, and you bang them together, then try to make them go over and "clack" on both the top and the bottom? Not a great despcription, but do you remember those? I think they were banned after awhile cuz they were hard balls, and rather dangerous if they accidentally hit your head or something! :)

I had that! My daddy hated it! It made so much noise. You can get little party favor versions now but not the big real ones. Oh man that was a work out when you really got it going! Beth
