I wanted to add that I hate the shorts and pants that say things like "hottie" and "diva". samantha has a pair of shorts that her dance instructor bought the team and they say "dance" on the butt. She was only allowed to wear them to class. I also hate the shirts with the smart alleck sayings on them.

I do NOT like that either. In fact there are a LOT of toddler sizes that say this, not just juniors depts!

It really is sad when they have to do that to baby and toddler clothing. I mean preteen is bad enough.

I loved the modest swimwear website. Will definitely be using that in the future. Perhaps, I'll even go swimming for the first time in years.
I, too, hate droopy pants on boys/men. My dd8 has heard my opinion many times and taken it to heart. At a store last summer, she walked up to a group of college boys and told one "your pants are falling down, you need to pull them up". I was afraid for her safety, but he just looked sheepish and his girlfriend said "see, I told you those pants looked silly" and than thanked my daughter. Maybe he thought twice about his choice next time.

My dd (13) is here visiting us for the summer. Her father allows her to wear makeup! I'm THIS CLOSE to throwing it out! She has also been wearing a lot of tank tops, but with a shirt over the top that is unbuttoned....and her pants are too tight and her shorts too short.

AND HE SENT HER TO ME WEARING THIS GARBAGE??!!!

I have always encouraged modest yet fashionable clothing. That is all that I have ever purchased for her. I am thinking I have to go through her suitcase and start throwing things away, and buying a more appropriate wardrobe. i don't see anything wrong with shorts and tank tops as long as they are not painted on or too short.

    I am going NUTS!!

I will just respost this as my response too. LOL. My dd and I are Hannah Montana fans. At first, I did not allow my dd to watch that show. Not because I had a problem with it but I had not seen it. Since it was about a "rock star" I at first had a bad impression. However, I watched the show and I love it! The music is just fine. A positive show and positive music. I never saw any inapproiate dress on that show. Not that there isn't...I suppose...I just never noticed anything wrong with it. In fact, i was happy my dd had a girl like that to see on tv. The girl is sweet, kind, honest and caring in the show...and very funny. It is sad those street walker girls may tarnish that. Hannah Montana is no Britney Spears. The chick would NEVER be allowed in my house.

I went to the store to find dd (2) a swim suite. Now, dh as already stated that his daughters are not allowed to ever wear 2 peices. I found 2 different suits that were 1 piece. WHY? I understand why an older girl might want to wear one, even if it isn't allowed in our home, but WHY a 2 year old???
Also, dd isn't allowed to wear dresses that come above her knees and her skirts have have shorts under them. It gets a little challenging because she is very long legged, so right now, she may only be a 2t in clothing, but ALL of her dresses are 3-4t to get them to be long enough. However, I've found that if I get the ones that tie in the back, I can make them look ok.
But, then again, I have a huge problem with the baby commericals that show them in either only their diapers or their bare bottoms.
    Grrrr....
And maybe if enough of us contact the clothing makers, then MAYBE we can get them to change. Or at least make clothes for some kids who what to be a little more modest.

I prefer two piece suits on girls, easier for them to go to the potty:) They are tankinis and work good. The one piece suits that I have seen, the leg holes come up really high on the sides and I don't like that.

lovinhomeschool -Did you check out the links posted above for suits? There are some two pieces that are great! I assume your dh is referring to bikini suits?

I was gone almost all day and have missed much of the conversation but I just had to scream out loud:

I HATE IT TOO WHEN BOYS WEAR THEIR PANTS HALF WAY DOWN THEIR REAR ENDS!!!!! HATE IT! HATE IT! HATE IT!

    Okay. . .I feel better.

I do know the Titus 2 website has some links to some clothing places that specialize in modest clothing and suits and stuff. I've never ordered, we've been lucky so far.

I think i want to learn how to sew....easiest way around it, I think.

I dunno, as little kids I think anything they wear is aimed at adorable and cute or trying to look like a grown up (which can be bad but usually stuff isn't too excessive). As for teenagers, if you want them to be modest maybe you should see if they wanna be goths. Aside from straight edge no style is more modest than some scrunchie armbands, bondage pants, and a slim-fit t-shirt. Bullet belts (or fluorescent belts, depending if it's Raver goth or not) and collars are great too.

Euph is right! Goth is a very modest style. Almost no skin showing at all. Now knowing you ladies the way I do I'm not sure this would be your cup of tea!! But it surely is modest.

    Yeah, it is modest.

Though maybe if it was all white they were wearing it wouldn't look so stupid.

Hmmmm. . .I don't know if I can agree with that. (LOL not that I have to.) But I think that modesty is not only about covering up your skin, but also about what your clothing says about you. Goth is associated with a particular world view and it is not consistent with what I want to promote in my kids.

I'm not judging goth style per se, but pointing out that if it is unacceptable for me to allow my kids to wear colors and styles associated with the gangs here, or allow my girls to wear stuff with 'diva' on it, then it's not okay to dress goth either.

It would be like telling my girls to wear hijab or wear the burka for the sake of modesty. They are technically modest. . .but it just doesn't fit who we are--and it would misrepresent our world view to others as well. So that's a very long winded way to say, modesty is not only about what's on the outside, but an overall attitude about life. ;-)

I went through my stupid phase, wearing mostly black, playing the drums, hairspray so thick my entire head of hair stayed together when the wind blew. It didn't last long...lucky for me!

    Now that I think back...
would I want to look like
    death
    or
    an angel

If I could go back that is...

Back in the day I wore tight jeans, cowboy books and tanks (minus the bras cuz I hate them). I also had a black leather bikers jacket. Also in the summer I wore bikini tops and short shorts and barefoot (even drove barefoot). I even did the big baggy pants and tiny shirts.
THEM DAYS ARE GONE! 10 years ago. I am now married and with three children.
Now I am either wearing dresses/skirts (long) or my addis pants and T-shirts. With summer here I now have 2 pair of shorst that go to my knees.
My 7 year old wears skorts and cannot wear anything short. Okay the skorts are short because it's hard to find long ones. Her regular skirts are long. All she has is one pieces because it is what DH prefers. No name on the butt which I don't care for.
Make up-I don't wear it all the time and I don't think DD will either. I have natural colors and will put some on her when I put it on. We also wear light colored nail polish. For christmas I will get her different colors because she likes to match her clothing.
I am sure my children will go thru that phase when they are young and dumb (18-25-30 years old). Once they all have started a family then they will think differently.
