I agree, its kinda like a circle journal we do on my scrapbooking boards. I send to Seyle, she sends it to Deena, and so on..giving each other a week or two to get the photos back etc. After everyone has had it, the last person sends it to the "owner" of the "flat stanley"..could even turn it into a lapbook when you got it all back.

    That sounds fun!

I can take them to Old Mesilla and maybe let them meet a flat Billy the Kid and to White Sands and Ruidoso, NM.

Becky, are you going to do it where you send it to someone and they keep a little something from him or are you just going to send him and let them send something back or pictures of the area. Just wondering how this one is being done.

I had sent Becky a message saying we would participate when she first posted this, but I wanted to say if you all start something new as a project or something please include my girls. They would love it. Crystal sent a Flat Stanley to my cousin in Florida one year in public school and she took him places and made pictures and then sent him back. I would love to make a Flat Somebody, my girls would want to name him or her, and we would send it to someone else who sent theirs to us. We would host their Flat whoever for a month or however long and send it home with pictures and little items for the owner. The owner could do the same for our Flat person. I was thinking we could take our guest to church, around our small town, maybe even get the local small paper to do a human interest story about it. Who knows. We are simple people raising a lot of kids so we don't go to many exciting or expensive places but we do have fun and we could do pictures from our area. I think I would include a picture of the small monument in our local park for a police officer who was killed on duty while my husband was the police chief. All kinds of ideas are running through my head! Anyone interested? I can't wait to get started! Beth

When my kids (Zach and Lindsey) did it....they did a "flat Lindsey" and "Flat Zach".

I like the idea of sending it from person to person. I think it was Melissa who suggested that. It would be like a "trip around the US". How fun!

We can take them to Dairy Queen and Skyline Chili! And to Zach's football game and to Lindsey's dance class. There lots's of things we can do!

Actually, I said it, not that it matters. Becky joined in when my kids and I sent a stuffed animal named Chinook around just like this. The people that joined in did fun things with Chinook and had a fun time! He was gone from me for 8 months! When he got back our local paper did a story about it, so I have the article in my kids memory books! We did US and Canadian history along with it. We looked up and learned about the states and one province where he went, marked them on a big map on the wall, and made a notebook with the maps of each state and info. we learned about them. It was a great project! If someone wants to host something like that I'll join in. It takes some coordination, but it's worth it!

We'll join in! We live in a rural area, but we can try to make a trip into Memphis and do some sightseeing for Stanley. Our Co-op would love to host him for the day, I'm sure. My kids will love it!!

I'm a little confused about exactly what we send along with Stanley (pictures, actual momentos, both??) and how long do we keep him? So if we do this, someone explain all the details to me. ;)

Wow, so many people have responded to this, I think its great, We will take any flat guests that come our way and take some digital pictures and send them back via e-mail----- because you just can't count on me to get pictures developed. So if any one would like for us to particpate send me a PM when you have your lettle fellow ready and we will give you our address. And if its a simple flat item we can handle the postage. And just incase the "flat stanly" would collect some "flat sulviners" I would want to send the little guy right back to its owner.

TeacherMom and everyone- pm me your address. As soon as I get envelopes I'll be sending them out. I want to send post paid envelopes like I SHOULD HAVE with the rocks I asked for last winter.

Okay, I went back and read the posts I didn't realize were there. I never notice what page I'm on!

I 'm doing a crab, not a Stanley. I'm not sure how this normally gets done, but her lessons say send it out and have it sent back home. They say to make several and send them all out at once, to be sent back home.

The lesson recommends a picture be sent back, or just a note about special things in that area, or a pamphlet.
Jeannie will write ashort note that I will enclose with the crab, and maybe a picture of her with it.

I wasn't going to do a thing of one person sending to the other because of the burden of postage. I was a heel to not provide postage when I asked for rock samples awhile back.

So, if it's cool with everyone just send Jessica home after she's worn out her welcome! This will also give Jeannie a faster result to see, you know?

Anyone interested still, pm me your address.

BTW, her social studies is a unit on map skills, so she'll be noting on a US map where Jessica has been.

Whatever works, I dont mind doing the send out/get back idea..that does make more sense when your tying it to a history lesson that you see the immediate results. SOrry If I overstepped my limits with my other suggestion..just thinking out of "my" box lol

Hey T'Mom...if you go to the first page of this thread, Deena posted a website you can go to and learn about the project. It is alot of fun.....

My dd said she wants to make one to send out, too...we would like it to go from place to place. One question about that...do the pictures, etc get sent with your "flat" person to each location? Or how does that work?
