Sorry. I was under the impression that the news was just side notes.....everyone had forgotten Houston and Galveston... Kinda felt like we were not kool enough for the news coverage or the celebrities coverage.
Jen, if theres anything we can do to help let us know. I don't think you are a footnote you are just upset right now. There is alot of people coming to help from this area, red cross was loading up today and light people, tree cutting people, they showed them on the noon news leaving for you all. I just think there is so much going on in the world right now with banks going under and yes the election which is more important right now. I know, I know you don't like that but it's true. I don't either, but what can we do. But, I see your area on the news alot.
Jen, sweetie you are cool for us. Don't worry what others think. Remember it takes time to get everyone packed and loaded and moved there to help. IT all takes time. I know it's hard waiting. But, girl come here we will help if we can.
That's kool. I was under the impression that the news was not getting out, but as long as it is, that is kool. We personally are fine, we were very blessed that we had the ability to prepare as well as we did and that we did not have major damage. I am just worried about others. I mean, think about this,.. you are a good family, you did your best to prepare, but it has been five days and all your ice has melted and you need ice for your inuline, and you live in an apartment so you can't run a generator... you might have a generator but theere is no gas in your area for miles... People are walking to these pods, but there is no centralization to the distribution and the volunteers are coming on tv begging for someone to orginize it beeter so they can keep them stoked... Some people are turned away from the pods even though there are supplies there, because someone told them to MOVE the pods... These poor folks need help. I have no idea what to do about it, but I wanted to be sure the news got out.
Jen its a mess looks like a war zone from what I seen. Just wish there was more we could do to help too.
Once our power came on, we gave others our generator, and the gas, we gave away our bottled water and then offered our home to others. (One of our local families completely lost their home) So, we have NO complaints, for sure. We are buttered in gratitude for what we have. WOW! 93% of the electricity provider costomers are still without power. We are going to check into seeing if we can volunteer to help out at these pods where they pass out supplies. I wonder if we could drive around because you know there are people who do not have cars and cannot walk that distance to these pods..
Jen~you are right. We ( I know I am not and I watch the news all the time!) are not hearing/seeing too much from that area...As with the lack of organization, that is an "upper management" problem, kwim? For Katrina and Rita, Gov Blanco, just made a bad situation worse~she was utterly clueless! For these storms, Gov Jindal was amazing and had his act together and was so organized and thought of all the details!! The politicians in Tx need to learn from Gov Jindal! They should have KNOWN to have everything ready and waiting as soon as the storm passed, things could have mobilized for where they were needed. I mean come on~ we KNOW a week or two in advance these storms are coming!!! Gov Jindal had utility trucks, National Guard, police (many from other states!), ambulance services, EVERYTHING waiting on the outskirts ready to swoop in as soon as the storm passed, and they did!!! I really hope one day that man runs for president......!!!
Houston and Galveston are getting plenty of attention around here, especially Galveston. For the last so many days this is pretty much the main story covered. Yes, politics was covered too and is covered more and more as the days go by. The only thing that interrupted the coverage was our head-on train collision which is understandable being that it happened here in California. But, yes, you all are getting coverage around here. We haven't forgotten about you folks in Texas.
We are hearing some about Houston. The signs over the major roads have notices about there being no gas on the way to Houston. They are warning people not to try to travel there. I am glad to hear that your family survived with no major damage. I hope the same is true for Tiffany.
I sure wish there was something I could do to help.. Prayers are the only thing I can do right now. I'm SO glad that you are all ok.
I have been trying to call Tiffany all this time with the WRONG number! GEEESH! Smack me later... I was ONE number off... (Smacks head, mumbles something about a V-8)
waht can we do in CALIFORNIA to help you all? Can we get the news people ? I have an email for one of the news people for my local news, but?
Here is ther post with all the info.. the info you are looking for is at the end f the post.. http://homeschoolspot.com/showpost.php?p=214055&postcount=36
Just spoke to Tiffany! She is FINE! They have everything but power however they do have a generator and gas. They are helping their neighbors. I offered to take them things or have them come here, but they say they are fine. She did mention some damage, but with texting (Because we could not get through on the phone) it is too cumbersome to explain everything, so I do not know what happened to their place. Thats all I know right now.
at least you weren't trying to call Ace Hardware:roll: thats what people ask for when they are one number off getting us........ so now I have it posted on the computer table. Glad you got a hold of her.
Quick correction --- Destroyer Escort USS Stewart is what is stuck onland. My idget mother told me it was the Battleship Texas. Not that it makes too much difference --- but I just KNOW someone will correct me 6 mos from now & I'll feel stupid. Best to just get the 'stupid' done with now lol
