I just saw a bird that looked like a crane. It stood so still for a while that I thought the camera wasn't on. Beth

We watched earlier today...saw more Wildebeest (with babies!), Impalas (a couple of males, then later a couple of females), and then a group of Nyala (antelope-type animal, brown w/ stripes - males have horns). SOOO cool! We're still holding our breath, hoping for giraffes! (my ds7's fav)

I am making a 'running list' of all the different animals we see. You can go to http://www.sa-venues.com/wildlife/default.htm and it tells you about African animals. So, I leave one window open to the camera and one to the info sight, then go back and forth to find out what each animal is (if we don't know yet).

By the way, Nkorho Pan is a natural water hole in the prestigious Sabi Sands Private Game Reserve, in South Africa, which is why you see buildings in the background and dirt roads.

Dozermom, Thanks for the information. We have been so into this that we haven't taken time to find out what we are seeing. We saw the Nyala you mentioned. They are so pretty. We have seen lots of birds but they go by so fast I can't get a good look at most of them. Beth

I'm thrilled you guys are enjoying this as much as we are! It's SO much fun!

I saw some kind of black bird yesterday with a white 'ring' around its neck. Two birds, actually. Haven't been able to find out what it is, though. We saw some sort of 'duck' thingy yesterday too. Still trying to find out what that is.

Oh yeah, on that 'info' site I gave you, there's a place at the top right that says, "South African Birdlife Gallery" where you can check out the birds...We saw some kind of ducks yesterday. Just looked it up - it's called a "Cape Teal" or "Cape Wigeon." Neat-o!

I love the 'soothing sounds' of the night insects...not good for the afternoon...too relaxing...zzzzzzzzzzzz... LOL.

Was the duck looking bird the one that was making all the loud noises yesterday. Sort of a honking sound?

I loved watching as the night scene turned brighter and brighter last night as dawn came to the watering hole. It was so cool to see it suddenly turn to color again. It made me think of creation. From the darkness there was light. Or as my sister tells our Wednesday afterschool kids. "God said it and it was so!"

when you see something "right now", how about if we post the African time? I would find that helpful!

    Hyena!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Way Cool!

It was making a weird noise, and my ds2 was like, "Mommy, is that a whale?!" LOL.

I was like, "Quick! Before the hyena come!" (Lion King)

    11:40 p.m. Africa time
