We will be arriving in TX in mid-Sept, so that probably won't be feasible for us.

Well, how far does everyone want to drive? Who can't afford to stay over night at a hotel/campground (so we can be closer to them so they can make it home that night)? Someplace like Waco or Temple might be the closest to the middle of the state... Who all is here in Texas and where are you?? :)

Would early October work, so we can all meet Pam and her family, too?

There's a Dr. Pepper museum! It's actually really interesting.. A mixture of the history of Dr. Pepper and of American entrepreneurship in general.

The Texas Ranger Museum is there, too. It was too late to go to that the time we were in Waco. I'm sure it would be very interesting, though.

    OH!

I'm not one that can afford a motel, but my parents LIVE in Waco so that would be very doable for us. Any time really, even.

Actually, October would be better than September too for us probably, because my husband will be in San Antonio for most of September. But if September is better for most, we can make arrangments I'm sure. (He might be staying the entire time and leaving me the vehicle anyway, so it might work just fine.)

Houston is about 4 hours from Waco.
Austin or anything in the DFW area is about 2 hours from Waco. So, Waco is halfway between them. (Um, east of Dallas, as in Tyler and area, might be 3 hours?) As far west as Abilene is within 3 hours. San Antonio is 4 hours.

If we have a lot from the Houston area and not many from the DFW area, Austin might be just as 'central' of a location. It's a full 4 hours from DFW, and 2-3 from Houston or San Antonio I believe. (So essentially, backwards from Waco's stats.)

It's possible that if in Austin, I'd be able to open my own home to anyone that might not be able to stay in a motel. (Couldn't fit a ton of people, and would of course have to clear with dh, but we could fit one family I'm sure.) I can make it to Waco, but won't have room to fit people with me.

There is also a VERY good zoo there. It's huge. Nothing like Dallas or Ft Worth, but much better than the one here in Austin. A morning's worth.
Mayborn Children's Museum is also very, very good. I think it's fairly reasonable too - maybe $4 per kid? Don't remember for certain. Each room has a theme and a small presentation that's followed by kiddos being able to play with all the 'stuff' in the room. Also has a great mammoth display, and some great Indian info areas etc.

If you all want the meeting in Waco, I can probably help to set some of it up. It's where we moved to Austin from back in January. My parents have lived there since 1992, and my husband's family has lived there since he was in the 4th grade. We know the area well, and can assist with directions and such.
Motels are often difficult to find. There's a little-known one north of town in the little place where my parents live. It's still right on I-35 and I can get you a link to their website if anyone wants it. Plus you'd have easy access to the kolaches.... ;)

    OOOH! I'm all excited!!

I'm near Abilene. I'm interested but Only if hubby can get time off work to come with. I get lost too easily. LOL!! It also depends on when you decide to do it. We are going to new mexico for 4 days in Sept for a bikers ralley. YAY!!! And we are Camping in the tent. Gonna probably freeze our booties off at night but we're looking forward to the camping experience. I could care less about the ralley I'm not much into it but hubby is going with a group that he just joined called B.A.C.A. or Bikers against child abuse. I'm going to meet some of that group next week. They sound like an awsome group. Anyhow, let me know!! I would LOVE to meet you all.

I just got back and just now seeing this. I'm up for it!! Would this be a weekend or weekday thing? So who all is from Texas and where in Texas? That would help decide where to meet. I know the end of September we are going to try and do another childless weekend just dh and I since our weekend didn't go so good this time. I think we may do a couples camping trip with my best friends then. But I will make it all work and October would be fine too. How fun!!

I'll be in San Antonio after Sept. 16. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make too much of a drive so soon after moving. You ladies have a GREAT time.
