I have taken my kids twice, and even though they are into robin hood and fairy princesses like no body's business, they hated it. It really is (seems to us) made for grown ups.

The kid section in the back is so small, and expensive!

You know that trying to find a "Kid" sword was an event in itself!?

I finally went into one wooden sword shop and asked where we could fnd kid swords.

I was treated to a snotty answer about how they do not make cheap toys, here and that I would be hard pressed to find some cheapo toys here, they only make QUALITY swords that start at $300.....

I looked right at her and said, "Are you retarded? There are fifty kids out there in the yard clammoring for that Robin Hood actor's signature and you are lecturing me about toys???"

"Well, we have a reputation of being a seller of fine wooden swords, not cheap chineese toys..."

I replied, with my husbands hand on my arm, holding me back. "They are KIDS! They want to PLAY Robin Hood NOT "BE Robin Hood! You want me to spend $300 for a sword for my son to play with?"

""WE only sell QUALITY swords here." she said, not budging on this opportunity to grab a sales idea......

"You're an idiot", I said as I walked out.

Eventually we DID find some child swords by the pony ride.. they were a bit pricey for us, but they were also friendly, so we bought them.

But mostly, my kids just seem too young, at 4 and 7. Maybe when they are like 9 and 12 or something....

    Oh wow Jen! That sucks!

Samantha LOVED Ren Fest when we took her!

She loved that everyone spoke with an accent and dresed up.

Everyday they are open they have a fairie picnic in one of the gardens. All the fairies spred blakents down and they bring out all kinds of snack treats and pass the trays around to the kids and parents. They play games with the kids and sing songs. And it's free!

We rode a couple of rides but not many because that gets expensive! We watched some really hillarious shows and they were all free. Dh liked Birds of Prey the best.

We also watched the jousting and Samantha thought that was really cool. We bought the girls each a toy wooden sword when we were in Hot Springs last month at a little shop downtown and they are going to bring those when we go. Grace wants to dress as a fairie and Samantha can't decide. Dh thinks I'm nuts but I plan on dressing up too.

Then maybe we should go with you! You know all the cool stuff. We were strangers there and it felt like, if you didn't know, then you weren't cool enough to know... argh!

I was thinking that 9 and 12 would be good ages, too. :)

Any time in October should work for us, as long as we know.

Austin or Waco either one is fine. DH is more likely to be around if it's in Austin, but if it's a weekend in Waco and we know enough ahead of time, he will try very hard to also go.

I'm *IN* Austin. I haven't been here long, but I can find things out. Maybe the park mentioned was Zilker? It's huge.
I'm *very* familiar with Waco, to the point that I can help plan and give directions etc. I'll have to stay out of town by 15 miles with my parents, but for me that's not really an issue.

As far as which town - it would really just depend on if we have more northies or more southies.
Waco is: 3 hours from Tyler, Abilene. 2 hours from Austin, DFW. 4 hours from Houston, San Antonio.
Austin is: 4 hours from Tyler (maybe a little more), Abilene, DFW. 3 hours from Houston. 2 hours from San Antonio.
BOTH are about 6 hours from Lubbock (Abilene is halfway); you just take different roads depending on where you're headed from there. I have family there and travel to Lubbock fairly frequently; can supply directions.

If you don't want anyone to have to drive further than 4 hours, go with Waco. If you have 2/3 from south (Houston-ish), Austin might be a little better unless it would discount those from Tyler and Abilene.

If there are enough people coming and staying in a motel, we might could even arrange a group discount? Just a thought. I'm wide open for either of those two places.

Kris is going to be way down in Corpus, so maybe we should just settle on Austin. Does that sound good?

The 6th is probably not good for me and the 13th is bad for Kris, so how about either the 20th or the 27th?

This is going to be fun! :D

    Austin sounds like a winner!

If we wait until the 27th then maybe Pam could join us. I think she said her husband is off that day.

Of course it makes no difference to me if it is the 20th or 27th.

    What does everyone think?

I am in a holding pattern, because on the 20th the comic Steven Wright is in the building and considered a big show, so Jack has to be there...... But the date is not nailed down, yet... argh! Austin would be awesome!

Austin's definately a couple hours closer to Corpus than Waco. Waco's much easier to navigate and has much less traffic. LOL

Either place, either date, works for us! I'll be watching to see what the consensus is. :)

Every Saturday in October my twins have soccer games at about 9am..... (If their game starts at that time (No promise) ... we would not be free until about 11am........ Drive to Austin would be about 3 hours, that makes it 2pm...... at the earliest.....

MIGHT be possible...... But, This bytes.....
Because there is no way DH would get BOTH Saturday and Sunday off and he would need to be back home for Sunday (Church and work)... sigh...... We should have done this in July!!!!

I will check the building's schedule for any shows that weekend, otherwise, no problem here.....

Before you think there is no shows scheduled for a holiday weekend, remember that we live in an international world and city and there are people of every faith planning projects and Thanksgiving means nothing to them.

I would not be able to make it, regardless of the date. My husband would not be going, and I just don't know about driving 4 hours one way somewhere by myself in one day, turn around ad make it home before dark. (I can't drive at night)
