The comment about the Charlie Brown tree made me laugh. One Christmas when things were very tight, we knew we wouldn't have a tree so my dh went out (we lived in the city) and cut some branches and limbs, enough to tie together a small tree. Looking back at pix it is funny but at the time we were just glad to have a tree. 2 years ago a friend bought us and artificial tree so that is no longer a problem. Jennifer
I just got my tree finished tonight. I don't usually do mine this early either, but just got in the spirit, I guess! LOL I will get a picture of it and post it if I can figure out how to do it!
Im debating on putting the tree up tomorrow or this weekend, if not tomorrow then it WILL go up this weekend when Im off work. I still ahve to do the lights outside and do the railing going upstairs. Still need to finish my topiaries Im making for the upstairs bannister(?) at the top of the stairs. I have so much to do to get ready!
I love the slim trees too. I bought one two years ago and it is so pretty and takes up so much less space. I just hope I can keep Babyboy out of it this year! I may put it up after Thanksgiving. Yours is beautiful Jen. Beth
Kris, I had a tiny tree in my bedroom when I was a kid, with tiny little ornaments, I loved it. They make so many minature ornaments these days! oh and when I put up my little town one year and took a picture my uncle thought it was the real town where I lived.......... compleete with "Amy's Bakery"
Amy, that is so cute. Hopefully this will be our last Christmas in the RV for awhile. YEA!!!!!!!!!!!! Jen, here I come back to Wisconsin to spoil the little ones.
We are going to start decorating tomorrow. I play Christmas music all year long. I just love. My sister gets embarrassed because it will be the middle of July and I am playing Frosty The Snowman with my windows rolled down. She asks me to please roll up the windows. I intentionall put on the lock so she can't do it. I love to tease her about this by turning up the radio. Growing up, we would go as a family to pick out the Christmas tree. One year my dad had some extra pocket cash so he sprung for a huge tree. We were so excited. He tied it to the top of our huge, white, station wagon and we headed home. Well as we were heading up a hill, the ropes came loose. Our beautiful tree rolled off the car and started to bounce all the way down the hill. My sister started to cry and my dad, being flustered, scolded her and told her to get control of herself. As he is telling her this a truck coming up the hill manages to run over and break our once pretty tree. Then my dad needed my mom to tell him to get control of himself because he lost it. That night my dad was in the garage for some time but eventually he came in with two pieces of a partially bare tree that was held together with a pole and some rope. It was different to say the least but we decorated it and it was a beautiful tree when we were done. Patty
Patty I love playing Christmas music all year along too. I think it's so pretty and love it. It's wonderful .
Jackie, you bet it will and does. There isn't a Christmas that goes by that we do not laugh about this. Patty
I think my hubby is cooking this year, he said he was on Sunday anyway, but I bought whats needed, so I figure I can work on the tree while he cooks since we have fake tree too. My kids have to have clean rooms and the rest of the house has to be clean then we can put ours up. We tend to be memory makers lol, so we take our time remembering who got who what ornament. Once I had one tree that was all apples and red, and then a second tree for the kids to decoarate that was fun! this year they asked if we can have a second smaller tree that would be decorated like Little House on the Prairie trees are. Popcorn and olden day style home made ornaments. That would be in our school room... The only problem we had with trees was one year we put candy canes on our tree all kinds of beautiful colors and yummy canes would meet our eyes the next day.... We came out to find empty wrappers and a tree full of ants! They had actually eaten the canes from the inside out and the empty plastic cover was still hanging on the trees! hah! I will post my tree when its up!
Oh yuck, TeacherMom! How horrible!! I fear the same thing which yearly prevents me from making a gingerbread house which dd8 BEGS me to do. We may just try some little graham cracker "cabins" w/ frosting and gumdrops etc. that we can photograph then eat and clean up right away.
hey it was better than some bugs we could have found ina tree, but ever since we have not put canes on the tree untill am when its just about time for kids to getup lol then they go into my tins and some are still there from last years tree trimming haha!
Yea, thats the join of living in the wonderful south all the neat bugs that come with it. Like you said the ants were better then some bugs they have here.
It is funny but when I was living in Vancouver BC we never worried about any bugs but a spider, and even those were few and far between. Wa state was even not so bad... but California is bug territory, flying things you never knew existed! lol
I tied minature candy canes to a present for a decoration once,........... ANTS. I felt so bad. My DH and I used to decorate a tree outside our apartment, We used the same wrapped candy canes for a few years...... one day a boy and his father came to the door, the father was making the boy appologise for stealing a candy cane, all I could say is " I hope he doesn't get sick from that old candy cane". I think the kid learned not to take candy canes off outside trees.
lol, Amy that is so cute. Tmom, yes in the south they have things I didn't know could fly if you know what I mean. GROSS things.
