Okay. I took my daughter yesterday to pick out a few outfits for the fall/winter. We went to Walmart. And usually Walmart has pretty cute stuff. Especially for the price since my daughter grows out of her clothes so quickly! Anyway, there was so much Hanna Montana and High School Musical "themed" clothes that you had to actually dig to find "nonthemed" clothes! It was so frustrating! Give me a break. There were at least four racks full of this stuff. It's like, quit shoving it down my throat!!! And when we didn't see hanna and HSM, there was littlest pet shop, the disney characters, my little pony....it was like brand overkill!!! What happened to fashion? They're turning our kids into mini ad campaigns!

I don't have this problem fortunately there aren't a lot of advertisement clothing for boys. At least not in the Toddler section, now this year when I have to start shopping in the boys section we will see but still I think it's easier to shop for boys than girls.

I completely agree but unfortunately my dd loves this type of stuff (though I don't allow hannah montana or hsm). My problem with walmart is the hoochy clothes (pardon my french), I got shorts for my daughter mid-summer and have to constantly tell her to pull them down, it's ridiculous. But I didn't really realize how short they truly were until yesterday. I told her for the millionth time to pull them down and she said "mommy, they are down!"
I said it's time for pants! lol.

btw....don't think this problem is just walmart, I think it's everywhere. I don't expect shorts past the knees but some that don't ride up to inappropriate levels would be nice!!!!!

Yep, all that kind of clothing fills Target also. I do not buy any clothing of those types, for my kids.

On your mention of shorts that are too short. The tween/teenage/early 20 crowd around here are wearing short tops and LOW pants. The pants are so low!!!!!!!!!! Then the top has to come above the belly button because they want to show off the tattoo at the top of their rear end and their pierced belly button! It's just disgusting.

I get so irritated when I got out and see little girls dressed like miniature adults (and not modest adults at that) I just sigh and shake my head. Children should be allowed to be children, they are not mini adults and should be dressed like children.

hey never fear they are not doign that here !
We have the fashion my dd started last year !
She was wearing leggings, long oens, jeans etc, under the short skirts the girls were wearing with nothing or shorts, well you know what I mean lol,
anyway NYC just had this in a fashion show!
People figure dd is unique, but I went to a mall lately and saw the same style in all the windows! How cool is that!
So you buy the short skirts but you wear either the long knit legging pants or jeans , even sports type of pants, capris etc are all worn under the skirts now,
Of course you ahve to make it color coordinated with one another, and if your dd has long hair do it up in ribbons, putting a ribbon in your hair is in here too somehow!
this is for tweens and teens!

Our Walmart is loaded with Hannah Montana and High School Music items; clothes, pencils, school supplies, dishes, towels, clocks, etc.....
I even noticed them bringing out holiday items with Hannah Montana and High School Musical on them as well.

On a related note...my 7 yo can't stand Hannah Montana (but, shh, don't tell, dh and ds [age 5] both do!). When she sees HM on someone's shirt, she makes a face. So we were at the store the other day looking for summer clothes on clearance, and I said, "Oh, look, how about I buy you a HM shirt?" Rather than the vocal "NO" I expected, DD scrunched up face, thought a minute, and said, "Okay." You could've knocked me over with a feather. I said, "YOU want me to buy a HM shirt for YOU to wear?" She nodded and said, "If I'm wearing it, I don't have to see it." :D
(We didn't get the shirt, LOL.)

you're right about the short shorts too!! and i have also solved that problem with leggings. Hopefully i can find them in enough colors! my dd likes to wear dresses and she's not very ladylike yet (she's 6) so the leggings are perfect. We should write a petition...NO MORE HANNA MONTANA!! LOL

I really do not mean to offend anyone here, but I fear I will hince, this preface.

But, the stuff you see at walmart is really aimed at the lowest common denominator of society. (That is my family included) but I have made a determined choice to not feed from their trough, just because it is there.

My other family members and neighbors may choose to do so, but they look like lemmings to me.

That being said, as a kid, I soooo wanted to look like madona... Yea.. Stop laughing.... Sadly, I easily succeeeded.

But I did not have anyone to pull me back an say, NO.

So choose what is not ok for your family and stick with it. If all the people stop feeding at the Walmart trough (Taking whatever they are given) then things might change.

But to be honest, after talking with walmart buyers (The people who choose what goes on the shelves..) They know what they are doing and they know how to get a mass of uneducated people with unstrict family values to buy anything they give them.

They also know that especially in supposed "Down Times" that Mommy and Daddy are more likely to give in to buy an unneeded pillow for their daughter who has been good, because it has the Famous person on it, because it buys a hint of happiness.. and "DAYNG IT We deserve it!" So they buy the Hannah Montanna Pillow... to go with the Hannah Montanna. etc....

I wanted to add that I too shop at walmart, but of course, I do not allow my kids to wear that stuff.

That being said, I do shop mostly at Treasure Stores Some people call them thrift stores.. We like Treasure store better,... sounds like what they really are! hahaha!

I do buy socks, underwear and other needs at walmart but for outer clothing it is rare.

We did stock up on solid color shirts for the kids when they went on sale at walmart for $2.50- $3.50... That was a STEAL!

JenniferErix....I'm not offended. I shop there and DON'T buy the stuff....but I can totally see how you're right on Target. (pun intended btw...I know we're talking about all of the lower-priced stores).

We are a NO HM, HSM...and who the heck are the Naked Brothers Band? Just their name bothers me! LOL :D

Thankfully we get a lot of hand-me-downs and most are bought at higher class stores that don't get into this branding thing. I'm am nervous, though, b/c this years hand-me-downs don't actually fit right so we are going to have to go shopping. Thrift stores here we come.

One day, take time to go into the nicer stores in your area and scour their clearance racks. You'll be surprised at the low prices. I shop Kohl's, Penny's, all those expensive places- but I pay WM prices and get better quality.

Well, I guess my point is:

I can't come down on some kid for wearing everything "Hannah Montana". Sure I may roll my eyes, but to be honest.. I would have bn bathed in Bee Gees stuff, given the opportunity,..

What I, and many people have a problem with is the AMOUNT of Hannah Montanna Stuff and the Clothing articles that this stuff is put on...

I mean who buys hot pants (Short Shorts) for their 7 year old???????

But someone will and they DO, SImply because it has Hannah Montana on it, and because of this type of thinking.....

Well if it is at Wlamart, I guess it is ok."

    Sgh!
Don't let Walmart determine what Goes in Your House....
    Whew!
Wish I could say that to my cousin!
    hahahaha!

I love the leggings idea, will have to give it a try next year when shorts are back in.
I'm kind of funny I think, because when we buy clothes I make them buy stuff like polos and I try to keep the t-shirt (which usually are covered with images) to a minimum. :)
Anyhow....I have a beef with walmart on women's clothes too....seems like I (at 30) can either choose to dress like I'm an 18 year old or an 80 year old....lol...there is not much in between. :)

Thank you for the reminder....I forget about their clearance racks. Kohl's are usually pretty awesome too.

Macys has the best clearance prices ladies, no joke!
I walk around to every department and scour the racks there, you would not believe the prices I get on some really nice stuff... for other people haha! I am more the kind of person who would rather dress in the younger clothes than the old lady stuff my age haha,
