If it doesn't sell, it would not last one week on the floor...

    Seriously....
They keep selling it because it sells...
    No other reason...

    Same with advertising...
I learned a major thing in advertising...
If you see an ad TWICE, it is because the first one WORKED... (Someone bought it)

    Same with merch...
    Because people are buying it.

The Merchandise has to Pay it's rent, so to speak, not unlike a horse that has to pay it's way and earn it's livin.... if a box of XYZ is taking up floor space at Walmart and does NOT pay it's rent... OUT it goes...

If you see one thing at ALL walmarts, it is because it MORE than pays its on way . . . in sales...

Now why Walmart is trying to mimic Target is beyond my pay-scale.... After all, it was Target about 8 years ago, that revamped themselves to go after the Walmart crowd.....

    It is all cyclical...

But at least in our area, All the Walmarts are changing the stores layouts.... The image... the icons.... and the Decor in the store..... To be more like Target...

    Yea, that's the ticket!

Some guy in a suit sold his idea to the corporate office and they did not have any better ideas... he probably got a new house in the Hamptons for this one...

ok--so from reading these posts I would have to say I'm a little more liberal in the clothing department. If my ds or dd wanted something with a charactor from their fave show or cartoon I would have no problem buying it as long as 1) the cost was right and 2) it was age apropriate and 3) their entire wardrobe didn't consist of it. My biggest issue is with parents not explaining to kids how to dress appropriately for different occassions and (especially girls) how to dress for their body and to not pay attention to sizes. Too often I see pre-teen and teen girls not only in the little short-shorts but in little short-shorts in a size 4 when in reality they need a 10. (yes I know teen sizes are actually odd numbers and ladies are even but you get what I'm saying.) So not only are the shorts even shorter than they are supposed to be but there is a serious muffin top going on! Not attractive at all and very unflattering. Then again what can you say when you notice mom wearing the exact same thing just as short and just as inappropriate.
I do think we as women are failing the future generations by not letting them know that all bodies are beautiful and clothing can enhance that beauty when used properly. How many of us have said --I need to loose x amount of weight or if only my arms weren't so flabby or something about our rear-ends being to big--in front of our children? We teach that we aren't good enough the way in wich we were created and that is a shame.
And I have to add; my dh and I have been together 10 yrs. (married 7), I am 30 lbs heavier than when we met, don't dress up as often or even bother to put on make-up, my hair style of choice -for what seems like forever- is a pony tail and yet he tells me I am beautiful every day! And I may not wear the little leopard print dress out but I have no doubt in my head that it would be worn and my dh would definetly be thinking BABE and not mommy!!! ;o) So SEEKING if your reading this---great job on the weight loss and I say put that little dress on tonight after the kids are asleep and show dh how much of a babe you still are!

lol @ the muffin top thing, that is one thing that seriously perturbs me as well! I keep thinking that 'in my day' (I sound like an old woman now, lol) that we'd never go out with our ponches over our pants! We'd wear shirts that cover it. And the belly hanging out! I am a plus size gal, size 16 and have always been around that size...but my belly never hung out!

Don't get me wrong on the clothes, I've bought strawberry short cakes and stuff like that for my dd, especially for around the house stuff but for going out, I tend to make them chose something a little dressier (not flat out dressy but not t-shirts).

Muffin Top, ya gotta hide it! A higher waisted pair of pants would do the trick.
Even camo can't hide that muffin top. I used to wear those types of pants when I was younger but there was nothing hanging over the top.

    LOL

My boys get a chuckle when they see young girls thinking they look hot in those pants with muffin hanging over the top. Girls can still look nice with the waistline a little higher.

I wear mine around my belly button usually, lol. :) that was the style when I was in h.s. and they're just more comfortable that way. I bought some once (not that low as the above pic or that tight for that matter) and I felt like my bum was falling out constantly! lol...needless to say, they're gone!
dh said "They're not sexy if you keep hiking them up" rofl :p
and btw....they were loose enough that they weren't muffin-ish!

I think when these young girls wear their pants too tight and too low they put the squeeze on their muffins which cause them to go over the top, thus that is where the name came from, muffin top. If I wore my pants like that I would look like a muffin too. Mine go around my belly button and nothing hangs out.

Back in my day, the Muffin Top phenomenon was replaced with Fat clumpy legged women who always wore Spandex Bike Shorts, or Skin Tight Leggings.. always with a LARGE White shirt...

Yet at the same time, I have a friend who is the biggest woman that I personally know, and yet she ALWAYS looks better dressed them me, regardless of the occasion..

So it all comes down to self respect.

And I dont care necessarily WHAT is on the clothing... goodness knows my 5 year old is bathed in Disney Princess at any given time....
But, at last she is not showing her rear bumps, her muffin top or well you get it...

AAAhhhh yes..... the lycra and sea of cotton....
But was it worse than the shoulder pads that were in EVERYTHING? Women in the 80's all looked like linebackers heading off to a game!!! Hey and just for fun lets add some extra fabric to the shoulders so it puffs up too, or even better lets hang some cording or tassels off of them! I think there were some designers sitting around placing bets on what they could get us to wear.

Sometimes I watch "Working Girl" just for the fashion memories! hahaha!

You forgot the big hair. LOL

There is a lady in town who is in her 50's with lots of jelly rolls who STILL wears spandex pants and capris with spiked heels from Fredericks of Hollywood with low cut spaghetti strap tops and falling out. She is a social worker. Did I gross anyone out yet?

rofl, you all are cracking me up! :)

Remember ladies....SPANDEX IS A PRIVILEGE NOT A RIGHT!!!! :p hahaha!
In my day one of the most "provocative" things was where your rips where in your jeans. Some girls in h.s. would try to get away with wearing the holes in their jeans a bit too high or right below their butt.

Does she dress like this for work or at her leisure?
The social workers I know dress down while they are off of work but still have some respectability in their attire.

    My recipe for big hair:
1)Wash hair throw in some mousse and dry upside down for volume
2)Wrap sections of hair around hot curling iron and spray with hairspray (around front of face only!)
3)With a comb hold the curled sections straight up and again spray with hairspray making sure to focus on the roots
4)touch the top of the hair--if you can reach it--and if it is stiff enough to draw blood you are done
5)Take your travel size hairspray for touch ups on the off chance that your hair fell bellow 8 inches!

And if you could find some aquanet you were in business ......I hated that stuff when my mom used it but when the mall hair was in style, nothing worked better. And ladies in Texas.....we know ya'll still do this! JK! LOL!
