We went to Walmart today. They had so much HM, HSM stuff. I barely found a jacket with nothing on it. I did find a Hanes one. Vicki is a little over weight because of her medicines. I have to go to JC Penny and Sears to get somethings. I wished I could find just plain Levis and Wranglers like I used to wear.
I shop at both Walmart & Target for cheap jeans and for t-shirts and such. BUT we stick with the Hanes ones and jeans are $8.00 for my son. We don't buy HM or HSM though my daughter does love the music in HSM. This past year we got a bunch of knit/cotton shorts - you know like the cheerleaders wear? Well she's a size 8-10 and I got her 14/16's because the length was better and the waist was still the same skinny size. We are into the leggings as well. Love them! We have a ton of footless leggings we got last year.
Again, my issue isn't really with what is on the clothing, but what the clothin articles are, and how they are cut. It is like Hooker alley... Oh! I get it! They are dressing us like Bratz dolls now, eh? hahahaha
bratz...that's another thing, I banned them in my house a long time ago for one simple reason...they're called bratz? Is that a good thing? My goodness? lol...just my humble opinion (others may love them,haha). But back to clothes.....This past weekend my dh and MIL took the kids out (giving me much needed alone time to work on school..yay). They decided to get Halloween costumes while they were out and they were telling me that you would be surprised by the types of costumes for girls ages 12-14 (and up). My dh said they looked like hookers and went on a rant about never allowing dd to dress like that (which I completely agree, although it's funny because dh is not conservative at all...he's the cursing, family guy watching, tell people exactly how he feels type).
I agree with the fashions at Wal-mart. I've even seen shoes with heels in sizes 1 and up. That's too young and I don't understand the desire to dress little girls like teenagers. I won't even let my daughter wear a 2 piece swimsuit. I started getting her clothes at Gymboree for that reason. I used to work there so I got a nice discount. But now that I'm a hs mom I just take advantage of the sales and discounts. If you bargain shop you can find great deals and their clothes are exceptional quality.
I agree with Pilar about Gymboree. I usually hit our spring and winter consignment sales for Gymboree, Gap, etc. Also, Old Navy has great clearance, too. And their sales aren't half bad. I find that their jeans hold up well for my boys, and if I get them on sale (or clearance) they're as cheap as anything I'd buy at Wal Mart or Target. I only have sons, though, so I don't know about girls' clothing at Old Navy. I agree that girls are being encouraged to dress far too old for their ages these days. It bugs me. With boys, the most difficult thing I have to deal with are finding shirts not covered in skulls and/or sarcastic sayings. For some reason, both my kids are drawn to shirts with prints on them. They hate wearing plain clothes, or those nice striped T-shirts. Drives me bonkers! LOL

We find a lot of really nice and new clothing at our Salvation Army. The only time I shop at our mall is when I need a bra or a specific something that I really can't get anywhere else.
We are also on a Walmart budget but not fans of mini-adult clothes...I find that Carter's and Gymboree (on sale) are usually very age appropriate and you can go online and register to get coupons mailed to you for an extra % off.
They also know that especially in supposed "Down Times" that Mommy and Daddy are more likely to give in to buy an unneeded pillow for their daughter who has been good, because it has the Famous person on it, because it buys a hint of happiness.. and "DAYNG IT We deserve it!" So they buy the Hannah Montanna Pillow... to go with the Hannah Montanna. etc....[/QUOTE] you do insinuate that most people that shop at walmart are uneducated. where i am from, everyone shops at walmart. all walks of life shop there. just because you have money, does not make you smart enough to stay away from the trough. trust me hanna and hsm are lurking all throughout the mall as well. really, the problem is everywhere. i guess i should have named my post rant about corporate america. i think that it's totally off topic to discuss the fact that people buy those things because they have less money. i simply don't think that's true.
You misunderstood me. It isnot that one shops at walmart, it is what they choose to buy at walmart that I was talking about. It would apply to any store.
Commenting of fashion trends: I grew up pretty much what some might call "trailer park trash" and Converse were the tennis shoes we could afford. I mean they were status all right - they meant you couldn't afford Puma and we wore them defiantly to show we were not ashamed of our financial status. Last week my daughter paid $50 for a pair of low top Converse! They look like they are made exactly the same as when I was kid. It was her money and she earned it so I let her spend it. But all the while I was thinking wow! Converse is what the kids with money wear now. Interesting how times change.

You know, I just had a memory pop up that I wanted to share, it's kind of ironic/funny. When I was 13 I found an adorable pair of shorts, they had black legging shorts underneith ripped jean shorts. I bought them with my allowance. Looking back now, they're much more conservative than today's standards. Anyway, I tried them on and was pretty much told no way, I could not wear them to school. Well, I went to school and saw a girl with the same shorts on except her leggin shorts were see through black lace. I was like "How come she can wear that but I can't wear mine!" My Dad would have freaked at todays fashions!
I am put off by commercialized clothing, not that my 7yo daughter does not have a few Hello Kitty and the Disney Princesses items, but I can count them on one hand. We have a pretty strict criteria with clothing: no midriff showing, skirts and dresses below the knee, no spaghetti strings/tank tops, shorts must be below the mid thigh and capris are preferred, no drop-waist pants or shorts. Fortunately, my daughter likes long (below the knee) dresses and skirts, the more material the better. :angel: I pretty much have given up shopping in any retail stores for children's clothes although I do like to get new shoes, underwear, socks, tights, etc. I find really great clothes at seasonal consignment sales for cheaper than store sales and what it would cost for me to make them. I bought two party dress in perfect shape at a sale just a week ago for $5 each, so she has new dresses for her next piano recitals. Once I got a white satin flower's girl's dress for $10 that she wore at a recital and at church. Everyone thinks I spend fortune on her clothes! :lol:
well ours has both kinds of clothes and we realised this fall the skirts at ours have dropped to the knee level. Now here the kids wear uniforms to school for ps and private so that helps some, but I think we must be a more conservative area or something? We have Christian T shirts at ours, yes I see a lot of the skull things at stores like Mervyns, but I dont see them at Wallys, just melow stuff and the HM and HSM stuff, that bugs me, but I like some of the sarcastic sayings .. I bought my son one that says "How do yo uspell trouble? S I S T E R" lol, and we had one years ago that said "I dont look for trouble it just finds me" lol I think these are funny and it gets people to talk to you , which is something my kids needed a year or two ago. But we are more laid back in that area I guess. I want th clothes to look 'propper' no skin! Let me just add that tanks are great -- OVER ANOTHER SHIRT! they look cute that way and cover the skin!
