I am interested in hearing about the healthy eating ideas, too. I think holding each other accountable (as much as we can anyway) would be a great thing! I know I could use all the ideas and encouragement I can get!

KYZG, you know better than any one of us if this is the right thing for you. So I will be praying that you can make a decision that brings peace for you and your family!

My dh just walked through, & I showed him your description of your work, Hoosier Mama. "Oh, man!" he said. We both are in awe of the amount of paper-work and organization you must have to do! Not to mention the people-skills you & your family must have. He said, "I'd rather sit in the swather (cutting hay) all day & half the night!" He's a good-type workaholic & loves what he does. He & I could not do what you're doing, however, and we applaud you! Thanks for sharing that fascinating glimpse into a very different world of work!

Prairie Home...I love the reaction! I guess we are just so used to what we do each day that hearing your perspective of it seems funny to me. It really does seem like it should be totally overwhelming, but you kno, it's just not. We own all the stores with my dh's brother, so they shoulder them together. And we have my FIL and 2 of my SIL that all helps with all the different areas of the business. We have been blessed to have such a great family who get along and loves to work together.
When you trust God and go where He leads, things just flow....that's the only way I can explain it! We went from having 4 DQ's for many years to adding 6 Skyline Chili's over a 2 year period....if things should have gotten stressful, that's when we should've felt it...and we just didn't. My dh doesn't spend any more time away from home than he did having 4 stores. He is VERY good at organizing, managing and time management......God is Good!!

About the fasting: If you fast two days a week, and eat healthfully the rest of the time, that can be better for you than fasting longer. After a couple of days of fasting your body goes into survival mode and actually hordes and stores the fat to last longer! Which is not good for weight loss! Also, exercise is very important! I go to Curves now. I've been to other places and I like this one the best. It takes some time, but you are working your heart, lungs, and muscles. You switch from aerobic to weight, back and forth, and it's with hydraulic (is that the right word?), so you don't have to set weights, you just go work and the resistance comes from however hard you work it. So you can have an 80-yo grandma follow a 20-yo young lady in good shape, and it will work! It's neat, and works all the areas that need worked. Yet you don't leave dead tried, you leave feeling good, and it only takes 30 minutes. I don't own or manage a Curves place, so I'm not advertising them, I'm just saying they have a well-balanced, easy to use program, and they're always so nice and very supportive! Weight loss doesn't happen well without exercise, so that's something to think about also!

At any rate, I agree with everyone else, you're special to God and to all of us, and we will be praying for you and supporting you in whatever you choose to do!

ok...that sounds great. Here are my goals:

    1. get back on track with my weight watchers program. (I can't really go to the meetings, but know the program well enough that I can follow the rules.)

    2. walk 20 minutes 3-4 days a week, building to at least 1 mile.

    3. drink more water (or crystal light!) and LESS diet pepsi!!! (that is a biggie for me...I love my diet pepsi)

I actually decided that today would be my first day to get back on my weight watchers program. I did well and now that I have read your post...am very excited knowing I have someone who is going to keep me accountable and encourage me!

Well, that picture was from 2 years ago. And I have gained all my weight back that I had lost while I was in Weight Watchers. I honestly am not "too" overweight, but I don't feel good and I have alot of problems with my back and hips and I don't have it when I am a little thinner. My clothes don't fit anymore...and I refuse to buy new ones!!!

My goal is to lose about 12 - 15 pounds. That puts me back to the weight I was in that picture and when I felt my absolute best!

Two lbs weight-loss per week is supposedly a healthful rate to lose. I can maybe be down 20 lbs, back into a better range, before Christimas, if I'm diligent, and you've all already helped me. I walked one mile at 3:00 this afternoon, and then after dd & I returned from a Beth Moore Bible study, I thought of you all & wanted to be able to report the second mile, and so I did it--around 7:00 pm., even though the mosquitoes were starting to follow me, by then. Anyway, thanks for being here!

I just re-read my post...and actually, when I was in weight watchers originally, I lost 20 pounds. And haved gained 25 back. So, 12 - 15 pounds doesn't put me back to the weight I was in this picture! But it is a more reasonable goal that I hope to maintain.

That is great! I am glad it is helping you already!

I also had a great day with my eating. I was very mindful of when I was actually hungry and only ate until I was satisfied (and stayed within the guidelines of weight watchers)....and I was at my in-laws house with alot of our family while they were all eating ice cream and chips, and snacks all day! But I, too, thought of you all here and it helped me to have self-control!

I will be getting on my treadmill today!

I have picked two goals to work on this week. I want to try to drink more water and to get out and walk some each day. I have to do this! Beth

Prairie Home---Great job!!! Keep it up!

I'll join in with ya'll! I need to lose about 10 more pounds. Going to Curves has helped me a lot! I've lost about 12-14 pounds so far!

I need to get my tummy in shape! Aside from sit-ups, what are good things to do for that? It's not huge, just flabby "baby fat" and needs toned up!

    My goals are to:

    1. Drink more water
    2. Go to Curves 3 times a week
    3. Walk/exercise at home every day, including the days I go to Curves. Curves is not quite enough for me without adding a little something extra. I'll also need to do extra exercise on the days I don't go to Curves.

    Deena,

Do you do full sit-ups or do you do crunches? I have lower back problems and my doctor has me do "pelvic tilts" to help strengthen the adbdominal muscles which in turns helps stabilize my back. It doesn't seem like much, but it really does help. You can either lay on your back and just do the tilt with your pelvis, or you can add to it and raise your head (point your chin toward the ceiling). As far as the pelvic tilt, you should only be "tilting" it by contracting your stomach muscles. What helped me learn the right way was to practice pressing the arch of my lower back flat against the floor. Hope that helps!

I love that we are all getting into this! It is a huge help to me for sure, and I hope everyone else, too!
