Are you others making progress toward your weight & health goals? A good side-effect from more regular walking for me is that some hip aches are decreasing. Plus, I'm taking glucosamine tabs. Just thought I'd share that.

I am not doing to well. We have had a lot going on. First, I have been at a work convention in Indianapolis with my hubby...of course, lots of food. And I enjoyed it a little too much! And second...I am just struggling with my family situation (my nephew and sister). I have been feeling pretty down about it all.

I need to regain my perspective and get back on track...it's just kinda of hard right now.

Instead of walking, I find myself wanting to come here! Now that's "defeation of purpose!" So, I'm definitely going to have to exercise self-control & limit my time on the Homeschool Spot. :(

Do you know, even after my feeling like I haven't done real well...I still lost about 1.5 pounds. Go figure!

I am getting on the treadmill here in a few minutes! That is what I need to focus more on at this point. I am not very consistent with exercise.

My Curves had a challenge to go to Curves at least 3x a week for 10 weeks. They had a two week time that you could join in, and it ended last week. I MADE IT! For 10 weeks I went there at least 3 times a week! The prize was a shirt for everyone who did that (lots did!). But the REAL prize was making the commitment and following through with it! I'm sure it didn't hurt my body any either! But now I have plateaued, I'm just staying around the same weight. Part of that is because I've gained more muscle, which is a good thing! But I need to eat better and I'm STILL having problems drinking enough water!

I'm glad you guys are here to talk with about this! I encourage all of you to keep at it! Don't limit yourself TOO much Prairie, we'd miss you!

I am struggling to even read this thread right now. If we don't get some answers for Crystal soon I think I will scream! I feel like I am a terrible mother for letting her go 3 weeks like this. She is still not able to put weight on her right ankle and it is still swollen and bruised! We have had xrays and an MRI, we have been to the hospital twice and the doctor's office once. We have made several phone calls to the doctor and we still don't have an appointment with the orthopedic doctor. If they can't get me an appointment today, I am going to call them myself. The lady at our doctor's office said she has to call for me so we will have a referal. I think if I call and ask them to call our doctor it would be the same thing. I am just so frustrated. I always do this. I get my mind set on losing weight and then something like this derails me. I eat out of frustration even though it makes me feel bad. Stupid? Yes. Self destructive? Yes! Then why can't I stop doing it! Big Sigh! Okay, I am done feeling sorry for myself now. Thanks for listening. Beth

Wow! I posted the last message and the phone rang. It was the lady from our doctor's office and she gave me a 3:30 appointment for TODAY! And the doctor we are going to see is a woman. Crystal will be so much more at ease with a woman doctor. I am so relieved. I fully expect them to say she needs surgery but maybe they will have another treatment. I am just so happy to be on the right track at last! Beth

Beth, I will be praying for your family at 3:30 7 will be eager to hear what happens.

Deena, thanks for saying that! I think I've been using this spot as a "sedative" in a way, to keep from thinking about other things & therefore, to stave off worry. Not that that's totally bad, but I purpose to use it in a more disciplined manner. And I started that this morning. I want to report an amazing thing: this morning I woke up full of resolve to be guided by the Holy Spirit. I resisted the urge to come to this "spot" first. Instead, I dressed nicely, fixed tea for dh while he did office work, read the Scripture for today out loud to the children, fixed a wholesome breakfast, started the wash, tramped on the indoor mini-tramp since it's misting outside, set out items for lunch, helped our "little pieces of heaven," (ie. our twins) with their homework, and only after seeing that they were on task did I decide to take a break. Guess what?! I found out that one of my "prayer partners" was dedicating her prayer time to me & to our family today! No wonder I'm functioning at a higher level today! Wow! I was tempted to feel a little bit good about myself, which is OK, too, but knowing this level of victory is from the Lord, through prayer is even better! The power of prayer shouldn't surprise us, but it does sometimes amaze me.

That is great news, Prairie. I am glad to hear you are having a good day. I updated my post the other thread about my sister and her son. You'll have to check it out!

I am getting ready to go spend some more time on the treadmill today....Yeah...2 days in a row! :)

Great job, Deena! What a wonderful accomplishment. You should be so proud!

I am thankful we can share with each other here, too. It really does help, doesn't it?

I'm happy for you, too, Deena! How close are you now, to your goal? Putting a little bit of lemon into it, helps me drink more water. Time-management & discipline in other areas goes along with weight-management for me. When I struggle with issues that are near to my heart, I often weaken first in the food area.

Bad news. A gain of about five pounds. I can't tell exactly, though, because our old scale has a nervous indicator that jumps around a lot. I can get it to point from three to six pounds less if I kind of sneak up on it first thing in the morning before breakfast & lean against the sink while I'm slowly stepping onto it & then gradually release the sink so as not to frighten the thing into jumping upwards. Really, we need a new scale. Does anyone have a digital? What brands are the most accurate? Are they expensive? And where are they found? It would help if I knew more precisely if I was coming or going and at what rate! Thanks!

I haven't read this whole thread, just parts of the begining and end. It seems you have been exercising and sticking with it. Good for you! Just remember that muscle weighs more then fat. If you have been exercising regularly, you can put on weight by adding lean muscle to your body. This kind of weight is a GREAT thing! Muscle burns energy simply by existing.

If you know you have been sticking to your life plan, I wouldn't worry about adding back a few pounds. If you are sticking to the plan and too many pounds are added back on, I would contact a doctor.

But to me, it sounds like you might be right on course :)

I have considered WLS also, I have seen a doc about it actually. I did lose almost 40 lbs two years ago on Low Carb but could not live like that forever. I had to stay under 35 carbs or so to maintain........ugghhhhhhhhhh

Anyhoo, a sidenote, he said, diet is better at this point than exercise because of this, it is EASIER to say no to 300 calories than to burn it off when you look at an exercise chart...........and I did, he is right, I PHYSICALLY cannot do any of the 300 calorie burners all in one 'trip' ie run long enough to burn 300 calories etc. I could over the course of a whole day but HELLO my chidl is homeschooled which means I have NO free time, no gym time like most moms, know what I mean?

Good thing is this, we have been experimenting with headache meds for me as my headaches have become worse in last year........probably due to hormones changing for me........they are trying me on Topamax now that also has a nice side affect, weight loss. Started it yesterday so we shall see?!!!

Well, Kristen, wouldn't that be great to have a nice side-effect to meds! I sure hope the headaches clear up! Our ds finds relief from frequent headaches with Co-enzyme Q-10 capsules & tumeric tabs.

I've done low-carbs, too, & those diets are good for a hypoglycemic like me, who wants to avoid diabetes. For me, there can be a rebound, If ever I cheat. And I loose the advantage real quickly. However, I do consistantly watch the carbs, except on occasions like yesterday--a church meal!

Aurie, thanks for the encouraging words. Yes, I've been pretty faithful on either walking or tramping. Like Kristen says, though, time is a factor.

And I simply cannot enjoy walking "for the fun of it" in blasting cold wind! Except for one thing: My hormones are changing, too, & sometimes when I feel a heat flash coming on, I head for the door & do a run around our circle drive. I try to "make lemonade" out of every hardship--turn it around for good, if possible.
